携帯のお天気アプリを見たら今日は２３度となっていたので、やった！と思ったのですが、我が家の温度計では２７度くらいまで上がっていました、がっくり。でも、曇っていたこともあって昨日までよりは少しマシではありました。明日の予報は２６度ですが、その後２週間は最高気温２２、３度が多く最低気温は１０度を切っている日が多いので、やっと過ごしやすくなりそうです、やれ、やれ。これまで１階のダイニングルームのクーラーを使うことは１夏に２、３度くらいだったのですが、この夏はもっと頻繁に、そして長時間使っています。
This morning I looked at the weather app on my phone and it said 23C and I thought ‘Yay! Finally cooler!” but our outdoor thermometer showed 27C after all, boo! However it was mostly cloudy today so it did feel a little bit cooler. The forecast says 26C tomorrow and around 22C or 23C highest and below 10C mostly for the lowest for the next 2 weeks so I expect it’ll be a little more comfortable finally. Phew! We usually use the air-con in the dining room only 2 or 3 times during the summer, but this year we’ve used it much more and for longer hours.
さて、今日の夕食はそんなお天気のこともあり、またもやおうちピクニック。冷凍していたスープをお昼に解凍して温めていただいたのですが、量が多くて少し残ったので夜に少しずつ食べて食べ切ってしまいました。チーズはチェダーの他に昨日ファームショップで買った３種類、ウォッシュドチーズの Rollrightというグロスターのチーズ、２０１６年にベスト・ブリティッシュ・ソフト・チーズの大賞を獲ったチーズだそうで、とろとろのチーズ。ゴートチーズは、Chabichou フランスの南西部のチーズで１８世紀から作られているチーズだそうです。ゴートチーズっぽさは少なめでクリーミーで癖が強いチーズで、珍しくわたしは結構好きでした。ブルーチーズは、イーストサセックスの Pevensey Blue、最近作られるようになったブルーチーズで、ゴルゴンゾーラを思わせる味でした。チーズの他には、生ハム、カクテルソーセージ、サモサ、エンパナーダ、ゆで卵のピクルス、サラダ。
As it’s still quite warm we decided to have “Picnic at home’ so we didn’t have to cook. We did warm up the soup that we took out of the freezer for lunch and there was some left so we finished it in the evening with other things. We had 3 cheeses that we bought at a farm shop yesterday as well as some Cheddar – the washed rind cheese is “Rollright” from Gloucestershire, winner of Best British Soft Cheese in 2016, it’s very soft and runny. The goat cheese is “Chabichou” from South West France, where it’s been produced since the 18th century. Although I can taste that it’s a goat cheese it’s not too ‘goaty’, and has a quite strong flavour that I actually enjoy. The blue cheese is “Pevensey Blue” from East Sussx, a fairly new blue cheese, it tasted similar to Gorgonzola. Other than cheese, we had Cured ham, cocktail sausages, samosa, empanada, pickled egg & a salad.
