昨日の夜１０時半発コロンボ行きのフライトでスリランカ時間の夜中の１２時ごろ（シンガポール時間の朝２時半）にコロンボ（出発が３０分ほど遅れたようですが、フライト時間が予定より３０分短かったので予定時間に到着）に到着しましたが、イミグレーションに長く並び、お金を変えてSIMカードを買ってホテルの車でホテルに着いたのはスリランカ時間の朝の２時（シンガポール時間の４時半）でした。荷ほどきをして、あとは寝るだけ。
We took the 10:30pm flight from Singapore to Colombo last night. The flight was delayed by 30 minutes but the flight time was 3 hours and 30 minutes instead of scheduled 4 hours so we got to Colombo as scheduled. However, the queue at the immigration was very slow, then we had to change money and get SIM cards (we used Dialog, which seemed very popular as the other telephone company booths were almost empty but there was a large number of people at Dialog, so it was about 2.00am Sri Lanka time (4.30am Singapore time) by the time we got to our hotel by the hotel’s car.
スリランカは初めてなので何かと不安でしたが、これまでのところお友達が昔来た時はたくさんいたという物乞いの子供も見かけませんし、ある程度アジアに慣れている人なら大きなショックはないところのような印象です。人も穏やかでフレンドリー。唯一ムッとするのは、並んでいるところに横から平気で入って来るのが普通らしいこと。
As this is our first time to be in Sri Lanka we were worried about certain things like beggars in the streets (like a friend of mine warned me about – but she was here long time ago so I think things have changed) but we haven’t seen any and nothing specially shocking has happened. People seem quite calm and friendly, too. The only thing that has bothered us a lot is people trying to cut into queues as if they cannot see us when we are patiently waiting for our turn.
マラケシュではタクシーに乗るのが結構面倒だったのでコロンボではどうだろうと思っていたのですが、トゥクトゥクにもちゃんとメーターが付いていて明瞭会計。値段交渉をしたがる運転手さんもいるので（観光客がたくさんいるところではそういうタクシーが待っているようでしたが、他にもたくさんメーターで走っているので今のところトラブルなしです。）
In Marrakesh, it was a pain to take a taxi because they all want to rip you off and we were wondering what it would be like here, but so far the Tuk Tuks we’ve taken use proper taxi meters and there hasn’t been anything unpleasant. There are some taxi drivers who try to negotiate a much higher price but it has been easy enough to get a taxi that uses a meter properly.
コロンボには特に見るところもないので今日はお買い物の日。最初にトゥクトゥクでカフェ付きのお店「Barefoot」でランチとお買い物ををしました。想像していたほど大きなお店ではなかったですが、テーブルクロスやランナーなど購入し、カフェでランチをしました。カフェはオープンカフェで冷房がなかったのですがシンガポールよりも湿度が低いのでわたしでも大丈夫でした。夫はローストビーフサンド、わたしはファラフェルのピタサンド。ファラフェルはピリ辛で美味しかったです。
There isn’t anywhere we particulalrly wanted to go in Colombo so it was a shopping day today. We took a tuk tuk to ‘Barefoot’, where we did shopping and had lunch. The cafe was open air so I thought it may be too hot for me but it’s not as humid as in Singapore so I was able to enjoy the lunch. My husband had roast beef sandwich and I had falafel pita sandwich. The falafel was a little spicy and very tasty.
このあと病院だった建物をショッピングセンターにした Dutch Hospital Pracint に行ってみましたが思っていたほど見るところはなかったです。お茶やさんでお茶をしましたが、暑かったのでモクテルをオーダーして大失敗、頭が痛くなるほど甘かったです（涙）。
Then wen went to the ‘Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct’ but there weren’t as many shops as I expected and not much to see. We had tea at a tea house and I ordered a cold mocktail but it was so extremely sweet.
今回、夏物のトップの下に着るキャミソールを持ってくるのをすっかり忘れてしまい、キャミソールなしでは着られる洋服がないので２箇所ショッピングセンターを回ってなんとか見つけ（１つは地元の方達が行くところで、どちらもすごい人で疲れました。。。）、疲れてホテルに戻りました。
Somehow, I forgot to bring the camisoles that I need to wear under almost all my summer clothes. We tried 2 shopping malls and did find some in the 2nd mall but both places were so full of people and we got tired from the crowds and the heat so we went back to our hotel early and rested.
