Din Tai Fung

A friend who left Singapore for Japan sometime ago (is it a year ago or 2 years ago…?) is here for a visit and I had lunch with her yesterday.  As I’ve been away for a month, I really couldn’t come up with any suggestion and she didn’t have any place in particular she wanted to go to, but she suggersted Din Tai Fung so that’s where we went.

A vegetable starter – it’s a small portion so we ordered one each, apparently it’s her favourite but I had never tried it before.  It really was very nice and I enjoyed it very much.  It’s a little sour and a little spicy.

小籠包。Xiao Long Bao.

Pork & vegetable dumplings – not my favourite.

Spicy noodle – this one was very nice.  It’s a little spicy, a little sour, a little sweet.

Sweet dumplings with peanuts inside and covered with coconuts.

Sweet bun with black sesame filling.

It was all good but I specially liked the vegetable starter, spicy noodle and the sweet bun with sesame filling.  S$30 per person – seems very reasonable.  I feel Din Tai Fung’s food is mostly very good and very reasonable.  The only problem is that it tends to be very noisy so it’s not a place you can linger and have good catch-up.

In our case, my friend wanted to make cards so that was OK.  We came back to our place after the lunch and she made some die-cuts for the album she is planning to make for her daughter’s graduation, and while she worked on that we had a good chat.
