Hong Kong (Day 1 Dinner at a Vietnamese Restaurant “Le Garçon Saigon”)

This time, we decided to go to Hong Kong only about 10 days before we went, so I didn’t have a lot of time to search but picked up quite a few restaurants I wanted to try from the blogs of those who live in Hong Kong.  There were actually so many that we didn’t have enough time in 3 days.

One good thing about Singapore is that there are many restaurants that you can make a reservation at on some website, but I didn’t find any (those I tried) that I can in Hong Kong.  I was able to send emails to some of them but some didn’t even let you do that and I had to phone them.  Although it’s not as extraordinary expensive to call overseas these days it’s still a bit of a pain to have to phone them.  I hope they’ll change soon.

The first evening, we tried a modern Vietnamese restaurant called “Le Garçon Saigon” near Pacific Place  This area was being developed fast when we were living in Hong Kong.

Edamame with sesame, nori etc.  I found the grilled flavour (like burnt flavour) too strong and the portion seemed too big as a starter.

Green Papaya salad.  Unfortunately for me, there were lots of dried shrimps so I couldn’t eat much.

Very mini Vietnamese sandwich.  We were going to share but it was tiny so we ordered one more.

Deep-fried spring rolls.  The skin was quite different from what I know of Vietnamese spring rolls but it was tasty.

Main dishes were served with fresh spring roll wrappers, herbs, lettuce etc so you can wrap whatever you order with them.  We chose grilled beef and it was delicious.  This is a good idea, I think we can do something similar at home.

The dessert was rhubarb and strawberry crumble, I think.

As you can imagine from the restaurant’s name, it’s not traditional Vietnamese but more like modern version, but we enjoyed most of them.  The restaurant had a great vibe and we enjoyed being there.  We would go back if we lived in Hong Kong.
