エジンバラでの５日目のディナーは、義弟夫婦と一緒に歩いて１０分ほどのところにあるイタリアンに行ってみました。２日目に行ったところとは別のところで、滞在した家のオーナーさんのオススメのお店の１つでした。お店の内装は、喫茶店のような感じ。

On our 5th day in Edinburgh, we had dinner at another Italian restaurant near the house, I think we walked about 10 minutes or so.  It’s one of the restaurants the owner of the house recommends.  Interior isn’t very nice, it’s like a common coffee shop in Japan, just less atmospheric.

わたしは前菜に、トマトのブルスケッタ。パンはイタリアのブルスケッタのパンとは全然違いましたが、普通に美味しくいただけました。

I had Bruschetta with tomato.  The bread wasn’t what they use in Italy for bruschetta (too soft) but it wasn’t bad.

夫の前菜は、多分モッツァレラチーズのフライ。

My husband had, I think, deep-fried mozzarella.

わたしはシンプルなスパイシーなトマトソースのスパゲティーにしましたが、パスタがすご〜く茹で過ぎていて柔らかすぎるうどんのようになっていて。。。（涙）。もちろんわたし自身もパスタを茹でて茹ですぎてしまったことは何度もありますが、これはそんなちょっと茹ですぎの域を超えています。ソースも多すぎます。味はまぁまぁだったので茹で加減がひどくなければ普通にいただけたはずですが、パスタがここまで茹ですぎだと何もかも台無し。元々パスタそのものの質があまり良くないのではと思いました。

I had a very simple pasta – spaghetti with spicy tomato sauce.  Sadly, the pasta was way way overcooked and soft and there is much too much sauce.  Of course, I have overcooked pasta so many times myself when I cook but this is way beyond that.  The taste wasn’t bad although it wasn’t wonderful, but the texture completely spoiled it.  I didn’t enjoy it at all.

夫のメインは、カネロニ。これもわたしにはソースが多すぎに思えますが。。。

My husband had Cannelloni for the main.  Looks like too much sauce to me.

デザートは、アイスクリームにリキュール（アマレットだったと思います）をかけたもの。

I had ice cream with some liqure (I think amaretto.

夫のデザートは、バナナスプリット。

My husband had Banana Split.

 

義弟夫婦が何を食べたのだったか覚えていませんが、義弟は普通に美味しく食べていたような気がします。でも、義弟の奥さんはメインがすごく塩辛いと言っていましたし、デザートに欲しいものがなかったのでアイスクリームだけとオーダーしたのにホイップクリームが山のように乗せられてチョコレートソースがかかっていました。

I don’t remember what my husband’s brother and his wife had but I have a feeling my husband’s brother was eating without complain.  However, his wife was saying her main was too salty.  She ordered “just ice cream” but she had ice cream with mountain of whipped cream and chocolate sauce that she didn’t want.

２日にお友達夫婦と行ったレストランよりはマシだった気がしますが、ここもまた行きたいとは思えないレストランでした。借りたお家のオーナーさんや息子さんは一押ししていたレストランなので、多分あたりでは一番ましなのでしょう。やっぱりちょっと面倒でもエジンバラまで出れば良かったな、と思ったことでした。

I guess this was a little better than the restaurant we went to on our 2nd day with our friends, but I would not go back there even if we lived there.  This was supposed to be one of the best restaurants in the area according to the owner of the house we rented and her son.  I felt we should have gone to Edinburgh for dinner rather than eating near the house even though it would have taken us 30 minutes both ways.
