Watercolour Practice – It’s Been A While…

It’s been a long time since I practiced watercolour painting but I tried a little late last night.  I’m a member of “Creativebug” and tried the 1st day challenge of Daily Painting Challenge: 31 Flowers to Paint with Yao Cheng.

As always, she makes it look very easy but it’s not when I try.  I particularly found it difficult to draw the lines of stems with good balance.  Still, they do look like craspecia, which is nice.

This style of watercolour painting takes very short time to actually paint, so I wish I could practice a lot.  If I were able to do 10 or 20 paintings of the same object, I could probably paint something a little better, but watercolour paper is so expensive, I don’t feel I can use so many of them in one session.  This is my 2nd try.  The heads of the flowers are much smaller than the sample and the length and the balance of the stems look not quite right but I did enjoy trying.  I guess I should practice just the strokes over and over on one piece of paper before doing an actual painting.
