今日から１０月！日本は良い季節ですよね。シンガポールは相変わらず暑いですが、雨が多くなって過ごしやすい（と言えるかどうか微妙ですが）気温の日も増えてくる頃です。今年もあと４分の１になりました。あっという間にクリスマスですね。
It’s already October! It’s a lovely time of year in Japan but not very different from all other times here in Singapore as it’s always hot, but there are more less-hot days because we have more rain this time of year. We have only a quarter left of this year, it’ll be Christmas before we know it.
何年か前から、コーヒーを飲まなくなりました。コーヒーを飲むと時々動悸がするようになったというのも１つの原因なのですが、コーヒーの酸味が気になるようになりました。元々、コーヒーの香りは大好きですが、後味が苦手で飲んだ後はお水を必ず飲んでいましたが、そのうちコーヒーの酸味がどんどん苦手になって、とうとう美味しいと思わなくなってしまいました。お友達のお家で出されればいただけますが、自分から進んでは飲まなくなりました。時々、「わたしも酸味のあるコーヒーは苦手だけど、ここのコーヒーは美味しい」と言われるお店で飲んでみたりしましたが、やっぱりダメ。たまに甘いチョコレートケーキをいただくときはちょっと苦い飲み物が欲しいのでエスプレッソを飲みますが、コーヒーそのものの味を楽しむために飲むことはなくなりました。多分、もう３年くらいほとんど飲んでいないと思います。
A few years ago I stopped drinking coffee – partly because I sometimes had palpitations after drinking it but also because I found the acidity in coffee unpleasant. I always loved the aroma of coffee but to be honest I don’t know if I liked the taste that much. I always found the after-taste unpleasant and always drank water to get rid of it. Then gradually I found the acidity in coffee more and more unpleasant and eventually stopped enjoying it completely so I stopped drinking it. Now and again someone would tell me that she also disliked the acidity in coffee but enjoys coffee from this cafe or that cafe and I would try them, but never found what I liked. I would drink espresso when I eat something sweet, especially chocolate cake because I crave for something bitter with something very sweet, but apart from that I haven’t had coffee for probably 3 years or longer.
ところが、先日お友達が日本のコーヒー豆のネット販売を始められたということで、トライしてみてくださいと挽いた豆を２種類送って来てくださいました。夫はコーヒー大好きなので、ありがたくいただいて、夫に淹れたついでに少しわたしもいただいてみたところ、酸味を全く感じず美味しいと感じてびっくり！
The other day, a friend of mine started selling coffee beans from Japan on the internet in Singapore and gave me a couple of different ground beans as samples. My husband loves coffee so I made one for him using one of these and had a little to try myself – and I liked it! I didn’t find any acidity in their coffee and really enjoyed it.
ずっとずっと昔は普通にコーヒーメーカーで淹れていて、その後しばらくケメックスを使って淹れていました。その後、ネスプレッソに変えましたが、まだケメックスもコーヒーを入れるためのケトルも捨てずにとっていたので（よく捨てなかったものです）、ケメックスを使って淹れましたが、ケメックス用のフィルターはないのでいただいた普通のフィルターを使いました。ケメックスとは淹れ方が全然違うのですが、ま、いいか、と適当に。それでも美味しかったです。
Many many years ago – like 20 years ago – we used to use a coffee maker. Then I started using Chemex. Then we started using Nespresso. Fortunately, we still had the Chemex and a kettle for making coffee (I’m surprised I didn’t throw them away) so I made coffee using those. Naturally we didn’t have the proper filter for Chemex (which is very different from usual filters). I’m sure I’m not supposed to use other filters but I didn’t really have a choice, so I used an ordinary filter paper that my friend sent to me with the coffee samples.
いただいた豆はほぼ使ってしまったので、サイトからサンプルを購入してみました。５種類それぞれフィルターに入ったものが送られて来ます。（わたしが購入した後に５種類２つずつというセットも買えるようになって更にお得になったようです。）
As we’ve used most of the ground coffee my friend sent to me, I ordered some on their website. I decided to try their sampler (5 different coffees in filters for individual cups) – they now have a pack of 2 of each, so 10 in total.
なんとか淹れましたが、カップの種類にもよるかとは思いますが、このフィルターはうまくカップのふちにひっかかってくれなくて口を閉じようとしてしまい淹れるのが大変でした。普通のフィルターに移し替えた方が美味しくなる気がします。次回は、普通のフィルターに移し替えて使います。
I must say that their filter didn’t work for me, it kept slipping up from the cup and would not stay so the filter kept closing… Next time I would pour the ground coffee in an ordinary filter. Maybe it depends on the cup but I think it’s better to use a proper filter.
今も平日はネスプレッソを使って淹れていますが、ここ数週間、日曜日のお茶の時間にこのコーヒーを淹れていただいています。
We still use Nespersso every day during the week after dinner and also for my friends because it’s easy and quick, but I’ve been using this coffee every Sunday afternoon (instead of tea at 4.00pm).
