昨日はあれから熱が出て来て身体中痛く寒気もして気分も悪くなったのでお薬を飲んで寝ましたが、一晩中ずっと体が痛く、鼻も完全に詰まってしまいなかなか眠れず、口の中がカラカラベタベタでかなりきつい夜でした。これほど辛い風邪は久しぶり。今回は久しぶりに寝込むかなと思いましたが、今朝もう一度お薬を飲んでからは随分楽になったので、お昼頃にシャワーを浴びて起きました。今はまぁ、普通の風邪の感じでしょうか。喉の痛みもほとんど良くなりました。夫もまだすっきりしないので、ちょっと長引く風邪かもしれません。お正月早々夫婦揃って残念。皆様もお気をつけください。
After I blogged last night, I started getting achy all over my body, shivering cold and feeling quite unwell, so I took Japanese medicine for cold (which I find very effective to calm down the symptoms) and went to bed. It’s been a long time since I felt so unwell from a cold. Although I did sleep now and again I couldn’t sleep for long at one time because my nose was completely blocked up and I had to breathe through my mouth, which makes throat more painful, inside my mouth very dry and sticky and basically kept waking me up. Although not as bad, I was still feeling quite unwell this morning but after taking another lot of Japanese cold medicine I started to feel much better. I thought I would stay in bed today all day but I felt well enough to get up and take a shower around midday. Now it just feels like a normal cold and my throat isn’t so sore any more. My husband, who came down with a cold about 4 days ago, is still blowing his nose so this might linger a while. What a pair we are! Not good at New Year days…
さて、ニューイヤーズ・イブ、大晦日の夕食はどうしようかとお友達と相談し、最初はわたしたちが宿泊していたマリオットホテルの鉄板焼きに来ていただこうと思ったのですが、やはりこの時期、ホテルはニューイヤーズ・イブパーティーに出て欲しいらしく、他のレストランはクローズしていました。お友達ご家族は宿泊先のホテルに予約を入れるときにこの日はパーティー代金込みの宿泊になっていたということなので、結局わたしたちもチケットを購入してそちらのパーティーに出席することになりました。（パーティーに関しては悪いことしか出てこないので、ホテルの名前は書きません〜。）
Now, we were planning to invite our friends to Teppanyaki at Marriott Hotel, where we were staying at, for the New Year’s Eve dinner but we found out it was closed (because I suppose the hotel want us to be at their New Year Eve party). After discussing, we decided to go to our friends’ hotel’s New Year’s Eve party as they had to pay for the party anyway to stay there. (There is nothing good about this party so I’m not going to name the hotel.)
期待はしていなかったというか、まぁ、あまり素敵なパーティーだとは思っていませんでしたが、予想以上に酷かったです（涙）。まず、食べ物が不味すぎ。種類は写真に撮った以外にもたくさんありましたが、ナショナルフードのパッタイの不味いこと。エビペーストアジでした。サテーは割と美味しかったですが、他はダメダメでした。そして、パーフォーマンスがまた酷くて（涙）、幼稚園の学芸会のようでした。とほほ。。。お友達ご家族もわたしたちも、始まったときから時計ばかりみてました（笑）。高級ホテルなら違うと思いますが、長い長い４時間でした。こういうパーティーに参加するのは今回を最後にします。そこそこのお値段なので（１万円ほど）、安いタイ料理屋さんで食べるほうが満足出来ます。
We were expecting the party to be bad but it was even worse than we had expected. First of all, the food was very bad. They did have a lot of varieties (many more than I took photos of) but they just weren’t good quality. Their Pad Thai, which is supposed to be National Dish, was just awful! All I tasted was shrimp paste. Satay was good enough but everything else was awful. The entertainment ‘ performances ‘were even worse, like kindergarten kids level. So sad… We kept looking at the time for 4 hours! As you expect it is very expensive for what it is (we paid about S$130), we could have spent a quarter of it for all of us in an ordinary Thai restaurant and felt satisfied. This will be the last time we would join such a party.
タイで西洋のデザートを食べても美味しくないのはわかっているのでタイのデザートを探しましたが、置いていませんでした（涙）
I knew western dessert isn’t good in Thailand so I looked for Thai dessert, they had none!
ビーチでは、ランタンを揚げていました。台湾で妹と弟と願い事を書いて揚げたことがありましたが、台湾のものよりもかなり小さめ、スリムな形で、願い事を書いたりはしていませんでした。
At the beach, they were letting lanterns go. My sister, brother and I did this in Taiwan sometime ago but these are much smaller and narrower. We wrote our wishes on the lantern but they don’t seem to.
そして、カウントダウンがまた、年が明けてしまって他のホテルがもう花火を揚げているときに１０、９、と始まって、１０秒遅い間抜けなカウントダウンでした（涙笑）。花火はもちろんホテルごとのものなので、この程度です。
And, the countdown at this hotel was 10 seconds late!! All the other hotels were letting the fireworks go when the lady started to do the countdown! How silly was that? What’s the point of countdown if it’s not correct? The fireworks are done by the hotel so it’s not much.
そんな冴えない大晦日のパーティーでしたが、お友達と笑って過ごせたことに感謝です。
So, the party itself was not enjoyable but I am grateful that we spent the time laughing with our friends!
