今日は、「Jaan」でもう直ぐバンコクに異動されるお友達と共通のお友達３人でお別れランチをしました。お２人とも Jaan に行ったことがなく行きたいと以前からおっしゃっていて、そうこうしているうちにお友達の異動時期が近づいてしまったので、お別れ会に行くことになってしまいましたが行けて良かった。
I had lunch at “Jaan” with a couple of friends as a farewell for one of them, who is leaving for Bangkok soon. Neither of them had been to Jaan before so we were saying for a while that we would have lunch there one day but hadn’t done so, so we chose Jaan for this farewell lunch.
アミューズ４種類。お魚やシーフードが入っているものが３種類あったので、その分はわたしのものだけ別に盛ってくださいました。
First you get 4 amuse. 3 of them had some sort of fish or seafood so they prepared non-fish versions for me.
もう１つのアミューズ、マッシュルームとトリュフのスープ。
Another amuse – mushroom & truffle soup.
パン。
Bread.
全員４コースにしました。１コース目は、みなさんはビーツとイクラ。
We all chose the 4 course menu, the 1st dish was Beets & Ikura (fish roe) for my friends.
わたしの分はベジタリアンのビーツ。
Vegetarian version (beets) for me.
２品目は、麦のリゾット。テーブルでソースをかけられますが、タイっぽい香りのソースでした。
The 2nd dish for me was Barley. The staff poured the sauce at the table, it tasted of Thai food herbs. (Some sort of fish for my friends but the sauce was the same.)
３品目は、イベリコポーク。
The 3rd dish was Iberico pork.
プリ・デザートは柑橘類のソルベなど。
Pre-dessert was mixture of citrus sorbet, bubble, etc.
デザートは、たくさんのチョコレート。
Chocolate in many ways.
予約を入れるときに「何のオケージョンの集まりですか？」という質問があり、お別れ会と書いたので、メインゲストに特別ケーキがありました。お誕生日の時などにもケーキをご用意くださるのですが、散々チョコレートが出た後、またチョコレートケーキなので、少し違うケーキにしてくださると更に気が利いているのにと思ったり。ご用意くださるだけでありがたいのですが。
When I booked the table, there was a column on the booking form asking what the occasion was and I wrote “farewell lunch”, so they gave an additional cake to the main guest. They do this when it’s someone’s birthday, too, and we’ve been given one on past birthday dinners there. After a lot of chocolates I would have preferred it if it wasn’t another chocolate cake! – although I appreciate their gesture.

3 different petits fours as well as truffle chocolates.
４コースといってもアミューズもありプレ・デザートもありなので、結構お腹がいっぱいになります。全て美味しかったです。
Although it’s a 4 course menu, you get quite a few amuse and pre-dessert and petite fours, it does fill you up. Everything was very tasty.
集まった機会は寂しい機会でしたが、いつものランチのように楽しいひとときでした。お知り合いになって１年ほどしか経っていないのにお別れは寂しい限りですが、ご縁があったことに感謝。バンコクは近いので、ちょこっと行ったり来たりが出来そうな気がしています。お友達とバンコクに行きたいね、なんて話も出ているので、実現するといいなと思っています。
It was a sad occasion but we didn’t think of that, we just had a good time. It’s been only a year or so since we met and it’s already a good-bye – a story of expat’s life – but I’m happy we met. Bangkok is quite close from Singapore so hopefully we’ll get together. We are talking of visiting her once she settles down, it’ll be fun if we can.
