昨日、神戸に移動してきました。午後3時ごろホテルにチェックインして、お昼寝をして、お気に入りのワインバーで美味しい食事とワインをいただき、ジャズバーで飲みながらライブジャズを聴くという1日でしたが、また写真と共にゆっくり書きます。
Yesterday, we arrived in Kobe around 3.00pm, checked into the hotel, unpacked and I had a nap until it was time to go out for dinner. We enjoyed our dinner with many different wines, then listened to live Jazz at the well-known Jazz bar, ‘Sone’ – a place we’ve been going to for over 30 years. I will write more about these with some photos later.
今回わたしは1カ月の滞在なので、途中で髪を染めていただく必要があり、今日は11時からその予約を入れていました。その前に夫と美容院の近くの喫茶店でモーニングを食べ、わたしは美容院に、夫は街を散策に行きました。だいたい1時間半くらいで終わるので、その頃夫がいる場所でランチの場所を決めることにしていて、最初はセンター街のニューミュンヘンで待ち合わせようと連絡があり、しばらくして、やっぱり昔よく行ってたパブに行こうと連絡があり、オーケーの返事をしたところで、「予定変更、今〇〇と大丸の前でばったり逢って、一緒にランチすることになった！」と連絡がありました。
I’m in Japan for a month this time so needed to have a touch-up of my hair colour, so that’s what I had done this morning. While I was in the hairdresser, my husband was mooching in town and we were going to decide where to have lunch when I was finished depending where my husband was. When I was close to being finished my husband sent me a message suggesting to meet at New Muenchen in Centre-gai, then he changed his mind to meet at a pub where he used to go to when he lived in Kobe alone. However as soon as I replied saying OK he sent me another message saying “Change of plan – I just bumped into (our friend) in front of Daimaru. She can have lunch with us.”
そのお友達とは神戸に住んでいた時に親しくさせて頂いていて、その後わたしたちが香港に行ってからもしばらくは時々お目にかかれていましたが、その後香港にベースを移されてからは常にご予定が変動的で、何度か香港や日本でお目にかかってはいるものの、ここ何年かはお目にかかれずにいたのです。特に夫は多分15、6年逢っていなかったはず。
This friend was a close friend of mine (and my husband also knows her, obviously) when we lived in Kobe. We did meet now and again after we moved to Hong Kong, but after she and her husband moved to Hong Kong and we moved to Singapore she had such a busy life, traveling very often at short notice, which made it hard to make any arrangements and we hadn’t met for quite a few years.
今回の来日も急に決まったそうで、事前に相談していても予定を組めなかったと思うとおっしゃっていて、たまたま空いていた隙間時間に偶然逢えたようで、本当にラッキーでした。どちらかが大丸の前にいるのがほんの1分でも違っていたら逢えなかったことなので、奇跡のような偶然でした。
She told us that her visit to Japan this time also happened with a short notice so she couldn’t have made any arrangement if we’d contacted her, she just happened to have a free few hours, when my husband bumped into her. It was really a miraculous coincidence.
Donq のカフェでサンドイッチを食べながら、何年か分のキャッチアップをしてお別れしました。ほぼ同い年のお友達なので、やはりご両親のことで大変なことが多いようですが、お孫さんの話をされるときは本当にお幸せそうでした。次回はどこでお目にかかれるでしょう。
ちなみに、サンドイッチはとても美味しかったです。日本のサンドイッチは、本当に美味しいと思います。パンは新鮮でふわふわ、具も新鮮で塩加減も丁度良い。色々な国ですサンドイッチを食べましたが全然美味しくないところも多いのです。
Having sandwiches at Donq’s cafe, we tried to catch up with each other for the last 6-7 years! As she is more or less the same age as me, not surprisingly, she is going through a tough time with the situation of her parents but she looked so happy when she talked about her grandchildren, which was lovely, I wonder when and where we’ll see each other next.
Incidentally, the sandwiches were delicious. I find sandwiches in Japan are almost always delicious, unlike in many countries I’ve been to. The bread is fresh, fluffy, soft and the fillings are fresh and seasoned just right.
