Christmas Eve

Yesterday, I slept quite a lot in the car on our way to Devon and I was so sleepy last night after dinner, I went to bed straight away.  Then today, during the Christmas lunch, I started to feel so sleepy as if I had jet-lag, I had a long nap after lunch.  I don’t know why …

Our stay in the hotel this time includes all the meals except tomorrow’s lunch.  Yesterday, we arrived around 4.00pm, just when they were starting to have a wine tasting event.  My husband was too tired after a long drive to join them, though, so we just had tea, then had a little rest in the room.

The dinner last night was 3 course.  The Christmas lunch today was long, I guess that is why but the dinner last night was relatively light.

First we had a little amuse with a glass of Champagne.  One of them was some fish but the other one, which was something like Gougere with pumpkin puree, was very nice.  Another amuse (which was served at the table) was leek soup but 2 layers, the lower layer was in green colour.   The starter for my husband was cod and mine was celeriac.  The main for both of us was beef fillet.  We shared the 2 desserts – one was Tarte Tatin and the other was cheese.  Everytihng was delicate and delicious.

We’ve been coming to this hotel probably something like 25 years or longer, staying here almost every time when we visit England.  The chef has been changing a lot in the last few years.  To be honest, I really love this hotel, the only thing I haven’t been very happy was food.  However, so far, I’ve been loving the food this time.  The new chef started only in September, so is very new, but I feel his food has been the best so far.
