今日もグレーな１日で途中から雨。曇ったり雨が降ったりがほとんどで、たまに晴れた日がやってくるのがイギリスの冬。今年は特に雨が多いそうなのですが、昔留学した時も冬は雨ばかりだったような記憶なので毎年似たようなものではと思ってしまいます。

Another grey day with a little sun at one time but rain in the afternoon.  Since we arrived we’ve had a few beautiful days but mostly grey or raining – a typical English winter weather.  I’m told it’s been particularly bad this winter, but I thought it was grey and wet all the time in winter when I stayed in England to learn English all those years ago, so I didn’t expect it to be any different.  It’s probably like this every winter.

今日は、１月６日。こちらではクリスマスの飾りは１月６日かその少し前に片付けることになっています。１月６日は公現祭と言ってキリスト教の国では意味のある日らしく（詳しくはお調べください　笑）、クリスマスツリーなどクリスマスの飾りはこの日かその少し前には片付けなくてはいけないらしいです。我が家は昨日片付けました。毎年のことですが、クリスマスの飾りを片付けるとさみしいようなスッキリしたような、変な感じです。

So, it’s the 6th January today and you are supposed to put all the Christmas decorations away today (or before).  We put everything away yesterday and our living room is looking a bit empty.  Same every year, but once all the Christmas decorations are gone, in a way I miss them but in another way I’m happy it looks cleaner.

そして、フランスでは今日はガレット・デ・ロワを食べる日だったりしますね。(今年は、昨日だったそうです。)日本でも随分知られているようですし、シンガポールではお友達と集まって召し上がる方も多いようでした。日本の人はこういうことが好きで、宗教に関係なく積極的に取り入れますよね。イギリスでは、そんな外国の習慣がそう簡単に根付くはずもなく、ちょっと調べて見ましたが美味しいのを買えるところはなさそうだったのであきらめました。

Today is also a day to eat Galette des Rois in France.  ( Apparently it was yesterday this year.). Many Japanese now buy or bake this and enjoy it and many Japanese in Singapore get together with friends and enjoy it, too.  Japanese love this sort of thing – something to celebrate a new season or a particular day regardless of religions.  Not in England, I guess they aren’t keen to celebrate it in French way.  I did a little search trying to find somewhere we can buy delicious Galette des Rois, there are one or two places I could have tried but they didn’t look so good so I gave up.

今朝は、Hello Fresh の配達があったので、それぞれに家のことをちょこちょこして、ランチは家でサンドイッチ。夫はフォカッチャに昨日の残りのポークやトマトやアボカド、ブランストンピクルスを挟んだサンドイッチ、わたしは生ハムとアボカド。アボカドは先日ウェイトローズで大きなのを見かけたので買ってみたところ、これまで買ったアボカドの中では一番良かったです。

There was a delivery from Hello Fresh this morning, our 2nd week to use their service.  Until lunch time and after lunch we both did some little house chores (my husband more than me as I get up much later), then had a simple lunch.  We had a focaccia so my husband made a sandwich with left-over roast pork slices, tomato, avocado, and Branston Pickle.  I made a sandwich of Parma Ham & Avocado.  We found some large avocados in Waitrose the other day so bought 2 of them to try and used 1 today, it wasn’t too bad – the best so far anyway.

午後３時からキッチンのリノベーションの最終打ち合わせがあり、帰りにチチェスター のオーガニックフードのお店に寄ってナッツ類など色々と買ってきました。香港やシンガポールでは普通のスーパーの品揃えが良くてオーガニックのナッツなどもどこでも買えたのですが、イギリスではスーパーで置いているものはかなり限られていて、オーガニックのものは少ないように感じますし、美味しいハムサラミ類は専門のお店に行かないと美味しくないものが多いですし、パンも同じ。なので、あちらこちらでショッピングをすることになってしまいます。幸い、以前より時間はあるので良いですが。

We then had an appointment with the kitchen company for the last discussions/confirmation on the renovation at 3.00pm near Chichester and after that we stopped in Chichester to go to an Organic Food shop (Manuka Wholefoods) to buy some nuts, seeds etc.  In Hong Kong and Singapore the selections of things like this were good and we were able to find organic ones as well, but here you need to go to a speciality shop.  We do see some organic things in supermarkets but not a lot.  Same goes for other things like good salami, ham, bread, you need to go to speciality shops if you want something good.  Fortunately, we have more time here.

先日パン焼き器でパンを焼くのにパンプキンシードを入れたかったのですが、スーパーでは中国産のものしかなかったので今日オーガニックのお店を覗いてみたのでした。が、オーガニック専門のお店でもやっぱりパンプキンシードは中国産でした。シンガポールでは、１種類だけ中国産ではないものも手に入りましたが。でも、一応オーガニックなのでスーパーのものより良いはず。他にも色々なナッツや乾燥豆など買ってきました。

The other day I wanted to use pumpkin seeds in the bread we were going to bake in our bread maker and looked for them in a supermarket but all the pumpkin seeds they had were from China.  In Singapore I was able to get one kind of them from somewhere else (Australia?), but not here, so we tried this organic whole food place but even then all they had were from China.  At least they are organic so we bought a bag as well as nuts, pulses etc.
