今日は、３３回目の結婚記念日。３３年って長い年月ですよね〜、そんなに経ったとは感じませんが。
It’s our 33rd Wedding Anniversary today. 33 years sounds so looong! It doesn’t feel that long.
ということで、（今日はホテルが満室だったので）昨日、「The Star Hotel」で１泊してきました。家から車で１時間半くらい、ブライトンとイーストボーンの間くらいのところにあります。しばらく前にインテリアデコレーターの方と旅行やホテルの話をしていたときに、最近オープンした「The Star Hotel 」のインテリアが素敵だし食事も美味しくて良かったとおっしゃっていたので、この機会に行ってみました。
So, we thought we’d go away to celebrate it and stayed at “The Star Hotel” last night (it was fully booked tonight). It’s only an hour and a half away, somewhere between Brighton and Eastbourne. When we were chatting with our interior decorator about travelling and staying at hotels, she recommended us this new hotel “The Star” because the interior was very nice and the food was excellent.
The Hotel Inspector というイギリスのテレビ番組でAlex Polizziさんが経営が上手く行っていないホテルを訪ねて問題を解決したりさまざまな提案をして経営が上手くゆくアドバイスをされるのですが、その方がホテルのインテリアデザイナーとして有名なお母様と一緒に古いパブを購入されてリノベーションされ、ホテルにされたそうです。パブ購入時からリノベーションをされ、ホテルをオープンされるまでの様子がテレビ番組になり、つい先日放映されていました。オープンは６月中旬だったので、オープンして３ヶ月。
There is a TV programme in England called “The Hotel Inspector”, in which Alex Polizzi visits hotels that have financial difficuties to sort out their problems and make suggestiongs, and this hotel, The Star, belongs to her and her mother, who is a well-known interior designer for hotels. They bought an old pub and renovated it into the hotel. When we booked it we didn’t know all this and found it out later. We also watched a TV programme about them, which showed from the time when they bought the pub through all the renovation work until they opened it. The hotel was opened in the middle of June so it’s been open for 3 months.
お部屋は１つずつ内装が違うみたいです。わたしたちのお部屋はグリーン、オレンジ、黄色、ブルーの色合わせでした。素敵な内装ですが、狭めです。多分、もう少し広いジュニアスイートもありますが、ほとんどのお部屋がこの広さかもっと狭いみたいです。
Each room has a different interior design, ours was in green, orange, yellow and blue. Although the interior is very nice, it is quite small. I think they have some junior suites, which are a little larger than this room, but all the other rooms are either this size or smaller.
バスルームは広くはないですがシャワーブースは広くて、新しいのでピカピカでお掃除も行き届いていて気持ちが良かったです。
The bathroom wasn’t very large but the shower booth is nice and spacious. As it is newly done and their cleaning is very thoroughly done, it is shininigly clean, which is great.
イギリスの古いお家の木のビームが素敵。
I love these wooden beams in old English buildings.
お部屋の窓からは、中庭が見えます。お天気が良かったので、わたしたちが到着した２時ごろはまだたくさんの方達がランチを召し上がっていました。
Outside the window of our room, we could see the courtyard. It was nice weather so there were still a lot of people having lunch when we arrived around 2.00pm.
わたしたちもホテルがある村の中をお散歩してから、中庭で恒例のクリームティーをいただきました。
We also had our ‘usual’ cream tea here after we had a little walk in the village.
ビスコッティ付き。
Tea came with biscotti.
お紅茶がティーバッグだったのが残念。
スコーンは外はカリッと、中はふんわり、ではあったのですが、口の中の水分が全部一気に吸い取られてしまうほどドライで、残念ながらあまり美味しくはなかったです。
I thought it was a shame to have ‘tea bags’ rather than loose tea.
The scones were crispy outside and fluffy inside but extremely dry, all the moisture in my mouth was sucked out by it and I couldn’t swallow without the help of the tea.
