今朝は久しぶりにしっかり雨が降りました。イギリスは雨が多いイメージですし実際そうなのかもしれないのですが、降水量はそうでもなく、夏は水不足になることも多いです。お天気が良い日は少ない気がしますが、雨はぱらつく程度の日も多く、この夏はあまり降りませんでした。
It rained properly this morning. People think it rains a lot in England, and I suppose it does rain “often”, but the amount of rain isn’t particularly large and there is sometimes a problem with not having enough rain, especially in the summer. I don’t think we’ve had a lot of rain this summer. It is true that we don’t have many “bright” days, but when it rains it’s often just light rain now and again (but very grey).
まだドーセットの旅行の写真をアップしきっていないのですが、とりあえずは結婚記念日旅行を終わらせようと思います。木曜日も金曜日もとても良いお天気で、ラッキーでした。
I haven’t finished our trip to Dorset yet, but I think I’ll finish our wedding anniversary trip first. The weather was lovely on both Thursday and Friday.
結婚記念日の当日だった金曜日は、ゆっくり起きて、１１時前にチェックアウトし、ブライトンに向かいました。ブライトンは家から１時間くらいのところにあるこの辺りでは多分一番大きな街で、海沿いにあります。大昔、多分結婚して間のない頃に一度行ったことがありますが、久しぶりに行きました。イギリスに引っ越して来たとき、ここは田舎でお買い物もあまり出来ないですしアジア食材も入手しにくいので、ロンドンやブライトンに度々行こうね、と言っていたのですが、ロックダウンになったりで行く機会がありませんでした。１度だけ用があって行きましたが、そのときはぶらぶら歩きもせず、用事だけ済ませて戻ってきたので、街をぶらぶらしたのは今回が初めてでした。
On Friday, on our wedding anniversary, we slept late, checked out of the hotel a little before 11.00am and headed for Brighton. Brighton is only about an hour away from our home and is, I think, the largest city near us. We’ve been there together once, soon after we got married, so probably about 30 years ago, but this was the first time since then. When we moved to England we were were planning to go to London and Brighton often, because there isn’t anywhere local that is really good for shopping and also we cannot get Asian groceries near us. However, with the lockdown and things, we hadn’t had a chance to go there. We did go there once a little while ago. just to get something, but we didn’t spend any time to walk in the town.

夫は、チキンとアボカドのサラダ。アボカド、少なすぎ。。。
My husband had Chicken & Avocado Salad. There wasn’t much avocado…
わたしは、クラブサンド。多分、全く塩胡椒がされていないので味がない（涙）。イギリスの食事、塩辛くて食べられないかと思えば、全く塩胡椒されていなくて味がないことも多い。こういうサンドイッチ、後から塩胡椒しにくいんですよね。なぜ、調理するときやサンドイッチの具の上から塩胡椒しないのか。パンも食材もフレッシュだったので、塩胡椒さえしていればおいしいのに。チップスはカリカリでとても美味しかったです。
I had the Club Sandwich. I don’t think it had any seasoning, there was no taste other than the charred taste from charred chicken and bread. In England, sometimes things are so salty that I cannot eat, but also often there is no taste because of no salt. To be able to taste the ingredients, you do need a little salt and it should be added while it’s being cooked, not afterwards. It’s almost impossible to season sandwiches once they are made and cut like these. Bread and vegetables and chicken were nice and fresh so they would have been delicious if seasoned properly. Chips were very good, though.

After lunch we walked in The Lanes, where there are many antique jewellery shops, cafe, pubs etc.
じっくり見ていないのですが、すごく素敵な街という印象ではなかったかな。でも、ブライトンには焼き鳥屋さんがあったり、大きなショッピングセンターもあるので、またゆっくり行ってみたいです。今回は急に決めて行ったので、次回はリサーチしてから行きたいと思います。
We didn’t spend a lot of time in Brighton, but I didn’t feel it was particularly a charming town. Still, I know there is a yakitori restaurant, a large shopping mall, probably many more shops of the types that we cannot find where we live, so I would like to go back and spend more time. We need to do some research before then!
