旅行記、まだちょっとだけ残っていますが、今日はあれこれ忙しくしていたので明日かな？

I still have some to write about our holiday, but we were quite busy today so maybe tomorrow.

そうそう、書き忘れていたことがありました。多分日本でもニュースになっているかとは思うのですが、今週末はイギリスはエリザベス女王の即位７０周年「プラチナム・ジュブリー」で少し前から大変盛り上がっています。特にロンドンはすごい盛り上がりのようですね。わたしたちの旅行はスコットランドがメインだったので（スコットランドはイギリスではなく、特にここ最近独立したいと思っている人が多いのでイギリスのことではそれほど盛り上がらない）ほとんど気づかないくらいでしたが、ヨークとオックスフォードでは多少旗が見られました。多くの方がこの週末はご近所さんなどとパーティーをしていると思います。わたしたちも明日お隣がご近所持ち寄りパーティーを開いてくださるので、伺います。

I imagine it’s been on news in Japan, too, but I’ve been forgetting to write that people in England has been quite excited about the Queen’s Platinum Jublee celebration weekend, specially in London.  As our trip was mainily in Scotland, we didn’t see much bunting but did see some in York and Scotland.  I expect that many people in England are having street parties and neigbhourhood parties everywhere.  Our next door neighbour has invited everyone in our small street for a pot-luck party tomorrow, so we’ll be joining them.

今日は、午前中にチチェスターの美容院に行ったので、チチェスターの「Brasserie Blanc」でランチをしました。わたしたちが旅行していた地域箱の１週間くらい晴れたり雨が降ったりでしたが、この辺りも似たようなお天気だったらしく、今日は久しぶりに良いお天気になったので多くの方が外席でランチを楽しんでおられました。でも、わたしは外席ってあまり好きじゃないんですよね〜。日に当たると暑いし、日陰だと案外寒いし、結構風もあるし。なので室内でいただきました。

I was in a hair salon in Chichester this morning so we had lunch at Brasserie Blanc there.  The last one week while we were on holiday the weather was quite changeable but apparently it has been similar around here, so today being a bright sunny day people seem to have been enjoying eating at outside tables.  We, however, had lunch indoors as I don’t in general enjoy sitting outside, it’s hot when the sun hits you and cold in the shade and I don’t like the wind.

夫は、ハルミチーズ・バーガー。それほど美味しいとは言っていませんでした。だって、ハルミチーズとパンですもんね。

My husband had Halloumin Burger, I don’t think he enjoyed it very much.  It is just halloumi cheese and a bun.

わたしは前菜のメニューから、サラミ系のソーセージとポテトとポーチドエッグのサラダ。以前メインサイズにしてほしいとお願いしたら倍の量乗ってきて、多すぎて飽きたので、今回は普通の前菜サイズと別にバゲットをオーダーしました。美味しくいただきました。

I had Sausage, Potato & Poached Egg salad from their starter menu.  I’ve asked them once before to make it to a main course size which was double the size but it was too much and I got bored with it, so this time I just had the starter size as a main dish but ordered a baguette on the side; I enjoyed it.

 

今日は、デザートもいただくことに。ピスタチオのスフレ、チョコレートアイス付き、をシェアー。美味しかったです。あ、ここにもイギリスの旗が立ててありますね、これはプラチナム・ジュブリーのお祝いだと思います。

We decided to have a dessert (to share) as well – Pistachio Souffle with Chocoate Ice Cream, and enjoyed it very much.  You can see a UK flag on the ice cream, which I’m sure is for the Queen’s Plantinum Jubilee Celebration.

 

ランチの後家に戻って来て、お庭の草取りをしました。したくないけど、仕方ない。留守中に２度、ガーデナーさんに草取りをしてもらっていましたが、とても追いつかない感じです。頑張りましたがお天気が良すぎて太陽がガンガン当たって、時々日陰で休みながらしていても大変過ぎました。で、バテまして、ある程度した後涼しいお部屋でぐったりしていたらお昼寝してしまいました。

After lunch, we got home and we did some weeding in the garden, not that I really want to do it but it was really necessary. While we were away, we did have our gardener do some weeding twice but it wasn’t enough.  I did try hard under the hot sun, having a little cool down break in the shade, but it got too much for me.  I didn’t feel so well so I went back inside and lay down in the cool living room, then fell asleep

（初めに忙しくてと書きましたが　笑）その後、お茶をしながら少しテレビを見て夕方涼しくなってから、今度は植物を植えました。というのは、いくつか植物やハーブをオーダーしていて４月中に到着するということだったのですが到着せず、最悪なことにわたしたちが旅行に出た当日到着してしまいました（涙）。お隣の方がご親切にポットに植えて、まだ寒いから出さないほうが良いということでお隣の道具小屋のようなところに入れておいてくださったのですが、それを早く植えなくてはということで。お隣の方がせっかくそうしてくださったので早く植えないとと焦っていて、今日の夕方植えました。もう暑くはないものに、まだ西日がきつくて、そして中腰での作業が長くて、これもまた結構大変でぐったり。

I know I wrote “we had a busy day”,  but we did have tea and watched TV after I woke up until we thought it would be cool enough outside, then we did some planting.  I’d ordered some seedlings a long time ago and they were supposed to arrive before the end of April.  Well, they didn’t.  They arrived at the worst time, which was the day we left for our holiday!  Our kind neighbour potted them all (there were many!) for us and kept them in their shed because, she said, it was a bit too cold.  She took them out a couple of days before we got back.  As she did a lot of work for us, I really wanted to plant them as soon as possible so we don’t waste her kindness and we planted those that looked good enough this evening.  The evening sun was still quite strong and it was hard work planting all (as the soil here is very hard) squatting all the time and I got exhausted by the time we planted all of them.

で、夫もわたしもすっかり疲れてしまい、夕食の時間に食い込んでしまったこともあって夕食を作るのが面倒になり、トースト食べて済ませてしまいました（笑）。

By the time we planted them all it was later than our usual dinner time and we were too tired to start preparing the dinner – so we just had a nice thick slice of toast.
