ロンドンに3泊で来ています。宿泊ホテルは、クラリジッズ。今回のお部屋は長細いお部屋でした。

We are in London for 3 nights from today staying at Claridge’s. This time our room is a long rectangular shape.

今日はオペラを観に行く予定が入っていて7時開演だっため夕食の時間がすごく早かったので、チェックイン後はそれまでお部屋でゆっくりして、夕食は予約をしていたコベントガーデンの鼎泰豊に行きました。住んでいるところでは美味しい中華も飲茶も皆無なので、ロンドンに来たら必ず行きます。コベントガーデンの鼎泰豊はオペラハウスからも近くて便利。5時半からだったので予約しなくても大丈夫かなと思いながら一応予約を入れたのですが、結構混んでいて並んでいる人もいたので予約をしていて良かったです。オペラハウスやシアターが近いので、早い時間も案外混むのかもしれません。

We were going to the opera this evening and it was a 7:00pm start so we needed to have a very early dinner. We went to Din Tai Fung in Covent Garden because it’s nice and close to the Opera House. There is no good Chinese restaurant near where we live in Sussex so we have been going to Din Tai Fung every time we come to London. I didn’t think we would need to book, as it was so early, but we were glad we did as it was surprisingly busy and there was even a queue to get a table. I guess it’s near the Opera House and other theatres so many people go there for early dinners.

大好きでシンガポールで必ずオーダーしていたオリエンタルサラダはロックダウン以来ずっと「用意出来ません」と書かれています。材料が手に入らないとスタッフの方がおっしゃっていましたが、そろそろ手に入りそうなのに。仕方がないので、きゅうりのスパイシーソースをオーダー。

There is a vegetable starter I love at Din Tan Fung and I always had it when I went to their restaurant in Singapore but since Lockdown the menu in their London place says “not available”.  Now that things are getting better I was hoping it would be back but it wasn’t, so we ordered cucumber with spicy sauce.

これも大好きな、スパイシーソース麺。食べる前に写真を撮るのを忘れました。

後1品、薄いポークチョップにパン粉をつけて揚げたものがフライドライスに乗ったものもオーダーしたのですが、これもまた写真を撮るのをすっかり忘れてしまいました。

We ordered one more dish, breaded and deep-fried pork chop on fried rice, but I totally forgot to take a photo.

そしてデザートは、タロ芋のバオ。餡子のバオも野菜の前菜同様、ロックダウン以来扱っていないのです。餡子が手に入らないんでしょうね。

Dessert: Steamed buns with taro filling. We would have liked the ones with bean paste filling but like that starter we like they stopped serving them after lockdown, I guess they cannot get hold of bean paste.

ビール2本とチップを入れて84ポンド、14000円、いつもびっくりするお値段です。ホンコンやシンガポールではお安いんですけどね〜。

With 2 bottles of beer, it was £84. It always surprises me how expensive it is here because this is one of the cheapest restaurants in Hong Kong and Singapore.

オペラは、トスカを観ました。6月にロンドンに来た時にマダムバタフライのチケットを取っていたのですが地下鉄や電車のストがあって中止になったのです。払い戻しをしない代わりに3年の間なら他のチケットにかえることができたので、今回トスカのチケットに変えました。オペラなので当然悲劇。結構残酷なシーンもありましたが、歌はさすがの迫力でした。

So, we saw Tosca at the Royal Opera House. When were in London last time in June we’d bought tickets to see Madame Butterfly but it was cancelled at the last minute due to the strikes on the tube and the trains. They didn’t pay the money back to us but gave us a credit that was valid for 3 years, so that’s how we got the tickets for Tosca this time. As it’s an opera it was, of course,  very tragic and there was quite a cruel scene of torture (you don’t actually see the torture but hear it) but it was very powerful and we really enjoyed the singing.
