昨日は早めに出かけてたくさん歩いたので、今日はゆっくり目の1日を過ごすことにしました。今回、時差ぼけらしい時差ぼけは余り感じませんが、普段朝目が覚めないわたしが朝早く目が覚めているのでまだ時差ぼけはあるのだと思います。わたしは普段完全な夜型なので、朝、自然にスッキリ目が覚めるのは時差ぼけがある時だけ（笑）。なので、時差ぼけ大歓迎。もう、イギリスを発って1週間以上なので、そろそろ起きれなくなる気がしますが。
As we went out early and walked a lot yesterday we are having a lazy day today. Although I don’t feel “jet lag” so much, I’m sure I do have it because I wake up early without any problem whereas I can never wake up naturally usually in England. The only time I can I can wake up naturally is when I have a jet lag, so I actually quite like having it. It’s been more than a week since we left England, though, so it probably won’t last very long.
午前中はブログをしたりYouTubeを見たりしてゆっくりと過ごし、お昼にすぐ近くにある相楽園というお庭の中にある「相楽園パーラー」にランチをしに行きました。昔神戸に住んでいた時、最初は北野町の急な坂道の上の方に住んでいましたが、その後、相楽園の角の真向かいのマンションに引っ越し、香港に行くまで同じマンションで暮らしました。その頃は相楽園の中には食事をするところはなかったのですが、何年か前に相楽園パーラーとレストランが出来たようです。ネットで結構評判が良いので、行ってみることにしました。相楽園に入るには入場料が必要ですが、パーラーやレストラン利用の場合は入場料を払わずに北門から入れます。
We just stayed in the apartment doing things like blogging, reading, and watching youtube in the morning, then went out for lunch to Sorakuen (gardens), which is very near where we are staying. We lived opposite one of the corners of Sorakuen when we lived in Kobe all those years ago (after we moved from Kitano-cho) but they didn’t have any cafe or restaurants inside the gardens then. Apparently they opened this “Sorakuen Parlor” and “Sorakuen Restaurant” a few years ago. As the reviews online are very good we wanted to try it, and it’s only a few minutes walk from us. You have to pay the entrance fee to go into the gardens, but if you want to just go to the “Parlor” or “Restaurant”, you can use their north gate and don’t need to pay here.

This used to be a Guest House. The Parlor and the restaurant aren’t in this building but in the next building.
土曜日ということもあり、結構混んでいました。
Being a Saturday, it was quite busy.
迷った結果、わたしはミックスサンドにしました。サンドイッチはコンビニでも買えるしと思いましたが、やはりコンビニとは違う美味しさでした。パンはふんわりとしているけれど噛んでもべちゃっとせず、キュウリはシャッキシャキでハムも美味しく塩加減もちょうどよい。日本のサンドイッチは本当に美味しいと思います。
There were a few opitons for me but in the end I ordered “Mixed Sandwiches”. I thought I can always buy good enough sandwiches from a convenience store but this was of course much better. The bread is fluffy but not plasticky, cucumber was so crunchy, ham was tasty and all was very nicely seasoned. I think sandwiches in Japan are delicious.
大昔、40年も前のことですが、秘書兼通訳についた上司だったイギリス人の部長さんの奥さんが、日本のサンドイッチとサラダはとても美味しいとおっしゃいました。ファミリーレストランで食事をしていた時のことで当時のサラダはレタスときゅうりとトマトと缶詰のとうもろこしと缶詰のアスパラが入っていて市販のドレッシングがかかっているだけでしたし、サンドイッチも「ごく普通」だったので、何がどう美味しんだろうと思いましたが、イギリスに旅行をするようになって分かりました。当時のイギリスのパブなどでのサンドイッチはパサバサで味がなかったですし、サラダにはドレッシングさえかかっていませんでした。今では美味しいところでは美味しいですが、まだまだ美味しくないところも多いです。
40 years ago, when I was working as a secretary/interpreter/translator to an English boss, his wife told me that she thought sandwiches and salads were delicious in Japan. This was in one of those “family restaurants” I talked about before so not in a high level restaurant. In those days ‘salads’ in these places were very plain, just lettuce, cucumber, tomato, sweet corn and white asparagus from a tin or a jar with commercial salad dressing. Sandwiches were also very ‘ordinary’ to me and I didn’t get what she meant. I understood why once I had spent more time in England. These days you can get good sandwiches and good salads in England but still I find many not good ones.
夫は、クロックマダムランチセット。マッシュルームのポタージュとサラダがセットになっていました。美味しかったそうです。
My husband had “Croque Madame” lunch set, which came with mushroom soup and a little side salad. He told me it was very nice.
わたしは、アールグレーと無花果のケーキも。夫にも少しだけお裾分けしました。お茶もアールグレー。夫は、コーヒー。
I also had Earl Grey & Fig Cake and Earl Grey Tea. My husband had coffee.
お茶は小さなポットで来て、可愛いイギリス風のティーコージーも。
The tea came in a small pot with a cute little English-looking tea cosy.
気候が良い時はテラスに座ると景色も良く気持ち良さそうです。今日はちょっと曇っていて、座っていると少し寒いかもと思いました。お庭ではご結婚式の前なのか後なのか、それとも写真撮影だけなのか分かりませんが、写真を撮られていました。
When the weather is nice it’ll be lovely to sit on the terrace, I thought it was a little cool today to be sitting outside. In the gardens, I spotted a bride and a groom having some photos taken.
ランチは、合計で4,000円くらい。
The total bill was £22.
今日は混んでいたので、食事が出てくるまで随分時間がかかりました。30分くらい待ったかもしれません。「パーラー」というのは英語で「居間」とか「応接間」という意味だそうで、英語でも日本語でもちょっと昔風のイメージがありますが、そのイメージの通りお上品な昔風の喫茶店という雰囲気かなと思います。お食事もおいしくいただきました。
As it was very busy, it took them a long time to serve us, I think we probably waited for 30 minutes. As the impression of Parlor shows, it had a little old-fashioned vibe but in a nice way. The food was good, too.
ところで、ガラス戸を隔てて目の前にデート中のカップル（キャピキャピの若さというわけではない）が座っておられ、男性はずーっと女性の写真を撮っておられ、女性はその度にポーズを取られていて、ちょっと驚きました。最近の日本の女性はそういう感じなのでしょうか。恥ずかしくないのかな。2人でセルフィーで何枚か、ならわかるのですが、多分、少なく見積もっても100枚は撮られていました。イギリスでセルフィーを撮っているのは度々見ますが、これほどにもたくさん相手の写真を撮り、しかもその度にポーズをとっているのは目にしたことがありません。これが特殊なのか普通なのか。。。たまにしか日本にいないと色んな意味で驚きがあります。
Incidentally, there was a couple having a date (not super young) sitting at the table in front of us (with a glass door in between) and the guy was taking photos of his girlfriend forever and every time she was posing. Is this normal in Japan these days? She didn’t look at all shy. I can understand people taking a few selfie photos together but he took at least 100 photos of her while we were there and she posed EVERY TIME. I don’t know if this is normal or unusual here, but I’ve never seen anything like that in England. As I come back to Japan only once in a while there are always things that surprise me.
