今日は、わたしは三宮の駅の近くのネイルサロンに11時に予約を入れていました。滞在しているマンションから歩いて20分くらいということだったので、歩くことにしました。昨日、一昨日に比べて少し気温が上がりましたが、それでも日傘を差せばそれほど暑くはなさそうだったので。日本に来てからわたしにしては良く歩いていて、だいたい毎日8000歩から京都に行った日は13000歩近く歩いています。途中で通ったところにあった、四宮神社。

I had an appointment with a nail salon near Sannomiya station this morning at 11:00am. It was about 20 minutes from the apartment we are renting so we decided to walk there. The temperature went up a little comparing to yesterday and the day before yesterday but it’s still not that hot (20C) so I thought I will be OK with my parasol. Since we arrived in Japan, I’ve been walking between 8,000 steps and 13,000 steps (the day we went to Kyoto) almost every day. This is a shrine we saw on our way.

わたしは、シェラックという爪にダメージが少ないジェルネイルをしているのですが、それまで塗ってあったシェラックのジェルネイルを取って新しく塗っていただくのに1時間半かかるとのこと。イギリスでは30分から45分で終わります。主な違いは、取る時の丁寧さでした。こちらでは出来るだけダメージがないようにだと思いますが、最初液を浸したコットンを乗せてアルミフォイルで巻いて少し置いてからメタルの道具で擦り落としますが、イギリスに比べて軽く軽く擦る感じ。1度では全部取れないので同じことをあと2回。そして、爪についているキューティクルも丁寧に取ってからベースコート。結果は、イギリスで塗っていただいているよりもずっと綺麗ではあります。でも、正直なところ、その違いがわかるのはわたしだけで人が見てもわからないと思いますし、30分から45分で終わる方が楽ではあります。お値段は、大体同じ、イギリスではチップを加えるのでその分だけお高くなる、という程度。良かったのは、清潔感があること。何もかも綺麗。イギリスではテーブルトップからネイルを乾かす機械からジェルネイルポリッシュが入っているボトルから、何もかもネイルポリッシュだらけなのです。日本では、毎日綺麗にされるんでしょう。そんな違いを見るのは、結構面白いです。

I have my nails done with Gel Nail called Shellac, and I needed to have the ones I already had on taken off, then have new ones applied. I was told it would take about 1.5 hours (it was actually an hour and 15 minutes), comparing to the 30-45 minutes it takes at the place I go to in England. The difference was due to the very gentle way they take off the old ones. First she puts the acetone on tiny pieces of cotton, puts one piece on each nail, and covers with aluminium foil (this process is the same in England although here everything was prepared in advance whereas in England they do it as they go along). She leaves them for a short time, then scrapes each nail VERY gently. It takes off just a layer this way so she would then put the cotton and the foil back on and repeat it. Then once more. I guess this way it doesn’t damage the nails as much. She then scraped the cuticles that are on the nails gently very thoroughly before she put on the top coat. The results are wonderful, so clean, so pretty. However, to be honest, although I can see the difference I doubt very much if anyone else can, and I personally prefer having them done in 30-45 minutes rather than spending an hour and 15 minutes for them. The great thing was that everything was sparkling clean here, whereas in England the table tops, the machine you put your fingers in to have them dried, and all the polish bottles are gungy with all sorts of polish. I guess here they clean everything every day or after every customer. Quite interesting to see the difference.

ネイルが終わったのが12時15分。丁度、ランチの時間。今日は、トンカツに行くことにしました。もうすぐ妹夫婦に会うのですが、トンカツを食べに行こうかということになり、数件チェックしたところ、2軒は閉店していて、もう1件はその日は定休日でした。やはり、コロナの関係で閉店したところが多いのではないか、という印象です。なので、その定休日だったところに今日夫と2人で行って来ました。元町の「武蔵」。昔行ったことがあるのですが美味しかったかどうかは覚えていませんでしたが、綺麗で落ち着いた雰囲気だったのは覚えていました。

I was finished around 12:15, so it was lunch time and we decided to go to Tonkatsu. Yesterday, I was chatting on messages with my sister about where to go together for lunch later this week and we thought we’d go to Tonkatsu. We searched a few places and found out that two of them had closed down and one had its regular closing day on the day we planned to meet. It seems to me that many restaurants closed down during or soon after the pandemic so we chose somewhere else. My husband and I thought we would go today to the one that would be closed the day my sister joins us since it is open today. It’s called “Musashi” and is in Motomachi. I didn’t remember how good it was but we’d been there before, I thought it must’ve been good, I remembered it was very clean and nice, nothing negative.

わたしは大抵、一口カツ、を選ぶのですが今日は売り切れていたので「ヘレカツ定食」にしました。残念ながら揚げ過ぎて、硬くてパサパサでした。日本でもこんなことがあるのですね、初めての経験です。こんなだったら多分覚えていたのではないかと思うので、以前行った時はそんなことはなかったのだと思うのですが。。。その上、結構高くて、4700円。

I almost always chose “Hitokuchi Katsu Set” but it was sold out today so chose Fillet Katsu Set. Sadly it was fried too long and was tough and dry. I was surprised this happens in Japan because I cannot remember the last time when I had tough and dry Tonkatsu here. I would have thought I would remember it if it were like that before. It was also a bit expensive – 4,700 together (£26).
