今日は、クリスマス前のキャッチアップということでお友達ご夫婦に「お茶とケーキに」とお誘いいただいて、午後からお邪魔しました。今日はお昼前からずっと雨。帰りは真っ暗で雨も降っていました、冬のお出かけはこれが嫌です。
We were invited to “Tea & Cake” by our friends so we went to their place in the afternoon. It started to rain before lunch time and was still raining when we left their place. It’s not nice to drive in rain specially in dark, this is a big drawback of going out in winter.
１２月になるとミンスパイやシュトーレンやクリスマスケーキを食べ始める方が多いみたいです。我が家は夫が嫌がってあまり早い時期から食べ始めないのですが、明日はお友達がお茶にいらっしゃるので、我が家もそろそろ食べ始めるかも。
Many people seem to start eating Christmas food like mince pies, Stollen and Christmas cakes at this time in December. My husband doesn’t like to start eating them early so we haven’t had any yet, but we are having a couple of friends over for tea/coffee tomorrow so maybe we’ll start then.
お友達が焼かれた、クリスマスケーキ。イギリスのクリスマスケーキはこういうドライフルーツがたくさん入ったどっしりしたケーキで、一般的にはこれにアイシングがのせてありますが、お友達はアイシングなしにされたそうです。クリスマスプディングほどではないにしても、クリスマスケーキもヘビーでわたしはほんの少ししかいただけません。
This is the Christmas cake our friend baked. Usually this sort of cake is covered with icing but she didn’t. Although it’s not as heavy as Christmas Pudding, Christmas cake is also quite heavy so I can only have a tiny piece. Japanese Christmas Cakes are very different, they are sponge cake covered with light cream and often decorated with strawberries, These days there are many variations but I don’t think this English style is known in Japan.
ビスケットも出していただいて、お茶を飲みながらあれこれおしゃべり。わたしたちの日本でのホリデーのことやお２人が一番最近に行かれたギリシャやトルコの話しなどなど。
They also served us some biscuits and we talked having mugs of tea – our holiday in Japan, and theirs in Greece and Turkey where they visited recently, etc.
このお友達ご夫婦は頻繁にクルーズに参加されていて、今年は５、６回クルーズホリデーに行かれていました。まだもう１つ、クリスマスの時期に行かれるそうです。以前も書きましたが、我が家もクルーズに参加することを考えているのでいろいろお話を伺ってきました。クルーズは高価ですし初めての経験なので、ついつい慎重になっていますが、クルーズは結構早くから予約を入れる方が多く、入れられるのは１、２年先とかになってしまう場合が多いので、そろそろ本格的に研究して予約を入れなければと思っています。
This couple loves to take cruises and they go on one very often, they had 5 or 6 cruising holidays this year and will be on one over Christmas as well. As I’ve written before we are also seriously thinking of trying a cruise so we talked a lot about the options for this. As this will be our first cruise, and also it’s something very expensive, we have been taking our time before deciding on which one, but they get booked up quickly and often you can only book one a year or two ahead so we really should make our decision soon.
