昨日、日中にお昼寝をしてしまい、夜眠れず、朝になってからやっと少し寝ました。自分の家と違ってホテルでは食事と食事の間は特にすることもなく、ごろごろしてテレビを見ていると寝てしまうのです。
I had a nap during the day and couldn’t sleep last night. I finally dozed off in the morning, but couldn’t sleep properly. Unlike being at home, there isn’t much to do here between meals and I end up falling asleep while I’m watching TV laying down on the bed.
今日は、イギリスではボクシングデーと言って昨日のクリスマスに続いて祝日になっています。昔、クリスマス当日は仕事をしていた召使達は翌日お休みで、雇い主が箱入りのプレゼントを渡した日ということでボクシングデーと呼ばれているらしいです。わたしの周りでは、ボクシングデーには家族で外出してウォーキングやお散歩をする人が多い印象です。
It’s Boxing Day today. I have a feeling that many people tend to go out and have a little walk or a proper walk on Boxing Day in England.
幸い、ようやく雨が止んで午後3時ごろまでは比較的お天気が良い予報だったので、わたしたちもウォーキングブーツを履いてお昼前に少しだけ近くをお散歩しました。ホテルが建っている前を通って林の中を少し歩き、その後、ホテルの前の道に戻り、両端がヘッジになっている車が1台やっと通れる道をチャグフォードに向かって歩き、「Gidleigh Park Hotelにはこの道で合ってます、後0.5マイルです」という看板があるところまで歩いて、ホテルまで戻りました。4000歩ちょっと、3キロちょっとの距離でした。
Fortunately, it stopped raining late last night and it was good this morning, according to the weather forecast it would start raining around 3:00pm but not before – so we had a little walk in our walking boots near the hotel. We walked in front of the hotel, walked in the little woods, then came back and walked on the narrow road between hedges towards Chagford, turned around at the sign “Keep heart, you are still en route” by the hotel. We walked about 4,000 steps, a little more than 3Km.
ちなみに、ホテルまでは大通りから細い道に入ってクネクネ道を結構走るので途中で不安になるため、この看板が設置されたのだと思います。初日のディナーの前の食前酒をラウンジでいただいている時に近くに座られたご夫婦、今回初めていらしたとのことで、道を間違ったかと思い、上記の看板に辿り着く前に途中で2回も引き返されたとのこと。
I suppose the sign was installed there because people start wondering if they were on a wrong road as the lane is very narrow and it seems long way. The couple we talked to in the lounge our the first evening when we were having a pre-drink told us that they turned around twice before the sign thinking they had made a mistake.
扉にリボンはクリスマスらしさが出てグッドアイデア。真似したくなりますが、ちょっと目立ち過ぎるでしょうか？
A huge ribbon on the door is a great idea, very Christmassy and effective. I feel like doing the same on our door at home, but would it look a bit too much?
