昨日は、コルフ島（ケルキラ島）のオールドタウンを歩いた後、お料理教室（デモとランチ）というエクスカーションに参加しました。港からバスで10分程度乗ったでしょうか。コルフ島は街のすぐ側に港があるのでバスなしで歩いて出ることも出来ます。オールドタウンでは、19世紀初めの生活を見せてくれるミュージアムにも寄りました。

Yesterday we took a paid excursion in Corfu – “Traditional Flavours & Modern Cuisine of Corfu”. We walked in the old town with a guide for around an hour and a half, then had free time for about half an hour, after which we were taken to a private villa for a cooking demonstration and lunch. The old town of Corfu is very near the port so you could walk, but we were taken by a bus, I guess it took us about 10 minutes to get there. We also went in a museum that showed the life of people in Corfu in the early 19th century.

コルフ島は日本ではあまり聞かない島ですが、イギリスではリゾートに行く島として人気です。１４０１年から４００年ほどの間ヴェネチア共和国の領土だったため、建物はイタリアの影響を受けていて、街並みはカラフルでイタリアを思わせます。その後、フランスの支配下となった時期もあり、イギリスの支配下となった時期もあるため、フランスやイギリスの影響も受けているそうです。ミュージアムではイギリスの食器やティーセットなどが見られました。

Although Corfu isn’t known in Japan very much, it is a very popular holiday destination for English. It was under Venetian rule for 400 years from 1401, the buildings were very colourful and looked quite Italian. After that it was occupied by France, then England so they were influenced by them, too. We saw some English porcelains (dishes, tea sets) in the museum.

金柑の砂糖漬けやリキュールなどが特産物だそうです、そして「キンカン」と呼ばれているのだそうです。他に、アーモンドのお菓子も特産物。

Apprently they grow a lot of Kumquats so we saw a lot of sugard kumquats in the shops. We call them Kin Kan in Japanese and they are pronounced the same.
