エクスカーションは以前も書いたように1つの寄港地に最低1つは無料のものが含まれていて、場所によってはいくつか無料のエクスカーションがあります。今回クルーズが初めてで様子が分からず色々考えた結果、短めの無料のエクスカーションに幾つかと、やや長めだったり丸一日の有料のエクスカーションに幾つか申し込みました。どれもこれも申し込みたくなりますが押さえて、疲れ過ぎないようにと小さめの街の場合は短いエクスカーションを選びました。午前と午後、1日に2つのエクスカーションに参加されている方も結構おられるようですが、わたしたちは1日に1つだけにしておきました。結果的には疲れが溜まらず、丁度良かったような気がしています。

As I’ve mentioned before, Viking Ocean includes at least one free excursion at each port, sometimes a few. As this is our first cruise, we didn’t have a clue how tough each excursion can be so we played it safe and chose a few free short excursions and some longer paid ones. It’s so tempting to choose everything we can get but we didn’t want to get too tired from excursions. Some people take one excursion in the morning and another one in the afternoon but we decided to stick with just one a day. We feel we got it more or less right, we could have taken one or two longer excursions but we didn’t get bored and we didn’t get too tired.

ちょっと長めのエクスカーションが続いたので、昨日、今日は短い無料のウォーキング・ツアー、というエクスカーションに申し込んでいました。どちらも小さな街なので、歩いてまわるのに良いところです。ツアーが終わってから街に残ってシャトルバスか歩いて船流ことも出来ます。

As we’ve joined a couple of long excursions recently, yesterday and today we took short walking tours with an option of staying on in town.

昨日のドゥブロブニックのオールドタウンは船からバスで10分くらいでしたが、街まで歩くことも出来る距離のようです。エクスカーション以外にも船から頻繁にシャトルバスが出ていて、係の方がシャトルバスの乗り場に待機してくださっているので安心でした。エクスカーションは最後に少しフリータイムがあり、バスは12時に船に戻るというスケジュールでしたが、わたしたちは残って、シャトルバスで戻って来ました。

The old town of Dubrovnik was about 10 minutes by bus from the ship but it was close enough to walk. Other than the buses used for excursions, they were running a shuttle bus between the ship and the town often and someone from the ship was at the shuttle bus stop until the last bus so it felt comfortable to stay on. The excursion had a little free time after walking in town with a guide and we would have been taken back to the ship around 12:00pm. We decided to stay on and take the shuttle bus later.

ドゥブロブニックは多くの国に攻撃されたり支配された歴史があり、一番最近では３０年ほど前にセルビアに攻撃されています。また、大きな地震も何度か起きていて建物は戦争や地震で崩れてしまったものも多いようですが、その都度多くの建物が復旧されています。旧市街地はユネスコの世界遺産に登録されており、歴史的名所がたくさんあります。最近では、「ゲーム・オブ・スローンズ」のメインロケ地として使われたことでも有名です。どこを歩いても絵になる、とても素敵な街でした。

Dubrovnik was attacked or occupied by many countries in its history and was attacked by Serbia only 30 years ago or so. Their buildings were destroyed by wars and earthquakes many times but many buildings have been restored. There are many historic places to visit and it’s also known as the main location for the filming of”Game Of Thrones”. Everywhere looked picturesque and beautiful.
