先日、バックドア（というより、表玄関のほぼ横並びなのでサイドドア？車を止めるところにあるドアです）を新しくしました。入ったときからドアと枠の間に大きな隙間があって風がビュンビュンと入ってきていたので隙間を埋めるもので埋めてはいましたがずっと気になっており、そして、鍵穴が鍵より異様に大きくて（なぜか、どのドアの鍵もそう）遊びがありすぎてすっと鍵が上手く入らないのも面倒で、長い間夫に変えてほしいと度々伝えていました。新しいドアは指紋を登録しておいて指紋で入れるようになっていて、いちいち鍵を差し込む煩わしさがなくなって快適です。（指紋で開かない場合は鍵が必要なので、鍵も一応持ち歩きます。）そして、以前は窓がなかったのですが、小さな菱形の窓があるので、入ってすぐのキッチンとクラフトルームの間の廊下部分が少し明るくなりました。

We had our back door (it’s more like a side door, near where we park) replaced with a new one the other day.  When we moved into this house there was a large gap between the door and the frame (it got bigger on the bottom from about the middle), where cold air could come in during winter, which we covered with a strip of plastic but it was looking ugly.  Also the keyhole was much bigger than the key so it wasn’t easy to push the key in the keyhole in the right place (this is the case in all the door keys here for some reason, I never experienced this other than in England), which was such a pain, specially whe it’s raining and you are hurrying to get in.  The new door has a fingerprint (or a thumb print) recognition system, so it’s so much easier to open.  We do carry a key in case that doesn’t work but so far so good.  In addition, it has a small diamond shape window, where the light comes in, which helps make the small corridor between the kitchen and my craft room brighter.
