今日は、お昼過ぎから雨が降る予報だったので心配でしたが、幸い、車に乗っている時とランチをしている時に少し降っただけで、そこそこ青空も見られました。今日はお出かけ予定だったので、雨の中、歩くことにならず良かったです。
The forecast said it was going to rain from around lunch time so we were a bit worried about getting wet as we were planning to have a walk. Fortunately it rained only for a very short time while we were driving and then again at lunch when we were in a restaurant; there were actually quite large areas of blue sky here and there as well.
我が家に日本から遊びに来てくださっているお友達とAmberley という村を散策しました。以前にも一度義弟夫婦とぶらっと歩いたことがありますが、この村はサセックス州では最も美しい村の１つと言われています。古いお家、中でも茅葺き屋根のお家がたくさん残っていて、あまり車も通らず静かで、イギリスらしい村です。茅葺き屋根の中には小動物や鳥のオブジェのようなものが飾られている屋根もあり、それを見つけるのも楽しい。
We went to the village of Amberley to take a walk with our friend from Japan. We’ve walked in this village once before with my brother-in-law and his wife and we thought it was very pretty. In fact, I’ve read that it is one of the prettiest villages in Sussex. The houses are old and there are still a lot of thatched houses/cottages, not a lot of cars go through so it’s nice and quiet, a very Pretty English village. Some of the thatched roofs have some finials of small animals and birds so it’s fun to find them.

A pair of phesants. I think they are shaped with straw then covered with chicken wire.
こちらは、肉眼でみた時はリスかなと思ったのですが、右側は狐のようにも見えます。でも、大きさは同じくらいなので、りすかな？？
These looked like squirrels but I’m not sure, the right one looks more like a fox. They are about the same sizes so maybe squirrels…??
このお家が特に素敵でした。

お家の壁に設置されちる郵便ポスト、１６３７年設置。

The left one is a rabbit (a hare?) and the right one is a fox.
村の萬屋さん兼郵便局の中も入ってみました。
We also went in this villages store / post office.
おまけ。この村まで車で家からなら１５分くらいなのですが、その前に、セインズベリーというスーパーマーケットに寄りました。お友達はお料理の先生をされていて食材にとても興味がおありなので、一緒にあれこれ見ていたら、普段見たことがなかったりんご飴を発見しました。
This village is about 15 minutes by car from us, but we went to a Sainsbury’s before Amberley. As our friend is teaching cooking, she is very interested in foods so we walked along many aisles slowly looking at the various items. I found these Toffee Apples that I’d never noticed before. We have these at festivals in Japan so it’s sort of a nostalgic thing for me.
