昨日の夜１１時２０分発予定だったコルフ島からロンドン（ガトウィック）へのフライトが１時間以上遅れました。昼間のフライトが１時間くらい遅れてもそれほど苦になりませんが、夜遅いフライトが遅れると結構きつい。既に朝からリゾートで丸々１日過ごしていて疲れていて、早く家に帰りたい、という気分ですし。ラウンジは１１時にクローズしてしまうのでその後はゲート近くの椅子に座って待つしかないのですが、椅子がプラスチックで硬い。他の空港では少しクッションがあると思うのですが。。。

The flight scheduled to depart from Corfu for London (Gatwick) last night at 11:20pm was delayed more than am hour.  It’s not so bad to have an hour or so delay during the day but it’s quite painful to have it late at night because we’d already had a long day and were eager to get home.  Besides, the lounge closed at 11:00pm so after that we had to sit at one of the chairs at the gate, which was made of plastic without any cusion and very hard on your bottom.  I think other airports we’d been to before all had little cushions on their seats.

そんなこんなで、ガトウィック空港に着いたのが午前２時、荷物を受け取り、パスポートコントロールに並び（日本人は機械で通れるはずが前回も今回もストップがかかり、係の人とコンタクトしてくださいとメッセージが出るので列に並ぶことに）、手配していたお迎えの車に乗り込んだのが午前２時半、ちょうど１時間ほどかかって家に到着。雨が降っていなくて良かった。２日前から暖房を入れていましたが、それでも家の中は少し寒かったです。

So, it was 2:00am when we arrived at Gatwick airport, then waited for the luggage, the queued for passport control (I don’t know why my passport doesn’t work with the e-gates because it is supposed to, it didn’t work last time and this time so I had to queue).  It was 2:30am when we left the airport in a car, which we had arranged in advance to pick us up.  It took just about an hour to get home.  I was very glad it wasn’t raining.  My husband put the heating on a couple of days  before but it still felt quite cold in the house.

そんな事情で今朝方寝て、ゆっくり起きてお昼を食べて、今日はゆっくりと過ごそうと思っていたのですが、夫が「大きな冷凍庫の調子がおかしい。」というので見てみたら、おかしいどころか完全に故障して冷凍していたものが完全に解凍されていました。冷凍のラズベリーが溶けてジュースになって棚に溜まっているし、冷凍していた卵白も流れてるし、棚にできた氷が溶けて来ているし。最悪です。

So we didn’t go to bed until early this morning, and I slept late. We had lunch and I was looking forward to having  a lazy day but my husband said, “Something seems wrong with our big freezer.”, so I had a look and found every thing was defrosted completely and there were some shelves covered with gunge from the juice of defrosted raspberries, egg white etc.  Some ice had formed on shelves, which had started to melt, too.  Oh dear…

そういえば、旅行に出る前、霜が出来ていて、わたしがドアをしっかり閉めていなかったのかな、と思ったのですが、思えばあの時から壊れていたんでしょう。ステーキ用のリブアイやチキン、イタリアンソーセージなど真空パックにして冷凍しているあれこれも完全に解凍されていました。多めに作っていた煮込みやスープなども全部駄目。悲しすぎる（号泣）。

Thinking about it, before we went on holiday, I did notice some frost and told my husband I seem to not have closed the door completely.  I suppose something was already wrong with the freezer then.  So, we wasted everything – ribeye steaks, chicken breasts, chicken thighs, special Italian sausages, all the packed slow-cooked meats, soups, curries, French beead…. I am so sad.

なので、全部取り出して処分して、ジップロックの綺麗なものはさっと洗って、冷凍庫の中の棚や引き出しを全部取り出して洗って消毒して。。。大変でした。そして、無駄になった食材が本当に残念。

So I had to take everything out, wash ziplocks that we could re-use, clean all the shelves & drawers…  It took quite a while for me to do all.  Besides, I’m really sad about all the food we wasted…

夫が探して火曜日に修理屋さんに来てもらえるようですが、すぐに修理出来るのかどうかわからないですし、狭いと所に置いてあるので引き出して修理の場所確保も大変そうです。リゾートでせっかくリラックス出来たのが帳消しになったような気分です（苦笑）。

My husband found someone who can come on Tuesday to look but we don’t know if it’ll be repaired straight away.  The large freezer is in the back of my craft room (well, it’s near the door) and there isn’t much room.  We’ll have to move the fridge as well to get at it, so that’s going to be a big job…  It feels as if the relaxing time we had at the resort already sort of got written off.
