今日は、お隣のお友達（ご主人様）が所属されているゴルフクラブのクリスマス・ランチに誘っていただいたので、ご一緒して来ました。わたしたちにとっては、今年初めてのクリスマス・ランチ。１２月に入るとどこのレストランでもグループでドレスアップしてクリスマスパーティーの食事をされちるのを見かけるようになります。実際のクリスマスが近づくとみなさんごく親しいお友達やご家族との集まりやその準備などでお忙しくなるので、早めの集まりも多いようです。日本の忘年会みたいなものでしょうか。こういう集まりってどの程度ドレスアップするべきか集まるメンバーや場所によって全然違うので悩むところです。スマートカジュアルと聞いていましたが、中にはドレスアップされている方も数人おられたものの、ほとんどがかなりカジュアルで、ジーンズの方も多く、ごく普通にその辺のスーパーでお買い物するような格好の方がほとんどでした。
We had our first Christmas Dinner (lunch time) this year with our next door friends at their Golf Club. You start seeing groups of dressed up people at restaurants having Christmas dinner/lunch from the beginning of December because people start getting busy with gatherings with their close friends & families nearer to Christmas. I suppose it’s like End of Year gatherings in Japan. I find it difficult to know how much to dress up at such occasions. We were told smart casual but it was more casual, many were wearing jeans and most people were wearing what you would wear to go out for a food shopping, although there were a few people more dressed up.

Seeing a large Christmas tree makes you feel Christmassy. Not real one, though.
クリスマスディナーにはお決まりの、クラッカーも。
We got Christmas Crackers, too.
事前にメニューを見て選んでおく、というシステムでした。わたしの前菜は、クロケット（コロッケ）。中にハムとモッツァレラチーズが入っています。サクッと軽く揚がっていて、とても美味しかったです。
We were given the menu in advance so we can choose what we wanted. I chose Croquettes to start, which were nice and light and tasty.
夫は、スモークサーモン。
My husband had Smoked Salmon.
メインは、夫もわたしもターキーにしました。これは、ターキー臭さが強過ぎて（多分、事前に焼いているのかな）わたしはほとんど食べられませんでした。上に載っているのは、スタッフィングボールとソーセージにベーコンを巻いたもの。
For the main we both had turkey with all the trimmings. The turkey was very strong (I guess they cook them in advance and just reheat today), so I wasn’t able to eat much of it, but all the vegetables were lovely.
サイドディッシュもたくさん。ローストポテトとローストパースニップ。
A lot of side dishes. Roast potatoes & roast parsnips.
スィードと人参のマッシュ。
Mashed swedes and carrots.
芽キャベツとベーコン。
Brussels sprouts & bacon.
赤キャベツ。
Red cabbage.
ターキーはほとんど残してしまいましたが、サイドディッシュはどれもとても美味しかったです。
Like I wrote, I left most of the turkey but all the side dishes were very nice.
デザートは、夫もわたしもティラミス。とても美味しかったですがすごい量で、もうお腹いっぱいだったのでほんの２口ほどだけいただきました。
For dessert, we both had Tiramisu. It was a huge portion! It was very nice, actually, but we were already quite full so I only had a couple of spoonfuls.
大勢のグループがいくつもあったので仕方ないことですが、かなり大声で話したり大声で笑っている人が数人いて声を張り上げないと話しが出来なかったので、食べ終わった時点で出てお隣でお茶やコーヒーをいただきました。ガス入りのお水とワイン１杯ずつ（ボトル１本を４人で分けました）いただいて、１組100ポンドくらい（１９１００円）でした。
There were a few large groups and it was ‘Christmas Lunch’ so it was expected but there were a few people, who were talking or laughing very loudly so it was difficult to have a conversation, so once we finished our lunch we left the place and had tea/coffee at our friends’ place for an hour or so. We had a small bottle of sparkling water each and shared a bottle of white wine between 4 of us and it was about £100 for 2 of us.
今日は嵐の影響で小雨でしたがまだ風が強く、外出したいお天気ではなかったのですが、幸い小雨でしたしほとんど歩く必要はなかったので助かりました。嵐の被害が大きいところもあるようですし、停電が長引いているところもあるようです。
Although we aren’t having too much rain it’s still quite windy because of the storm so it wasn’t an ideal day to go out, but at least it wasn’t raining too much and we didn’t have to walk much. Some areas have had quite a lot of damage and many hours of power cuts.
