今日もとっても良いお天気！イギリスのお天気、どうなっているのか。青空が眩しい、爽やかで嬉しくなるお天気、来週から旅行に出るのがもったいないと思うくらい良いお天気です。ただ、気温はそれほど上がらず今日も最低気温４度、最高気温１５度。風が吹くと結構寒いので、何を着れば良いのかわからなくなります。ノースリーブの人もいれば薄めのダウンコートを着ている人も結構いる、というある意味イギリスらしいお天気です。
It’s such a beautiful day again. I don’t know what’s happening to English weather! It’s so lovely with the blue sky. It seems a shame to go away from Monday with such beautiful weather here. However, the temperature is still not very high, 15C, with the lowest down to 4C, so it’s a bit chilly if it’s windy and it’s hard to know what to wear. You see people in no sleeves but also people with light down coats, I suppose that is quite English.
せっかくの良いお天気なので、お散歩に出ました。車を停めたところからアランデルのお城の側の川沿いを歩いて湖まで、そして湖の周りをぐるっと歩きました。全部で５０分ほど、3キロ弱。わたしは長袖のシャツの上に（やや厚めのシャツ）の上に冬用のジレを着ていたのですが、歩き始めは結構風があったので腕が寒かったですが、しばらく歩くと暖かくなりました。
As the weather was so lovely we went out for a walk in Arundel. We parked our car near the castle, walked along the river, then around the lake. About 50 minutes (just over 3km) in total with a break at a cafe. I was wearing a long sleeve Tshirt and a thick wintry gilet so my arms were cold in the wind at first but once we walked 15 minutes or so I got warmed up.
湖のお水、びっくりするほど澄んでいました。
The water of the lake was surprisingly clear.
カフェの近くで白鳥に餌をあげていた方、白鳥が押し気味で怖がっておられました。白鳥って結構怖いんですよね、わたしたちは近づきません。
The lady who was feeding the swan near the cafe was a little scared as it was getting quite close to her. We find swans are often aggressive so we never go too close to them.
そして、お約束のお茶とケーキ（コーヒーと胡桃のケーキをシェアー）。イギリスに引っ越して来た頃、イギリスの人って街に出たりガーデンに行ったりすると着いた途端に必ずお茶飲むよね、と夫と笑っていたのですが（わたしたちは家に戻ってから飲んでいました）、今はすっかりイギリス人のわたしたち、お茶とケーキがないと物足らなくなりました（笑）。でも、着いてすぐではなくて、歩き終わってからですが。やはり、こういうのは習慣のものですね。
Then, we of course had tea and cake (a shared piece of coffee & walnut cake). When we moved to England, we found it a little strange that the English people we knew would always have tea or coffee as soon as we get to somewhere like gardens or a town. We still find it strange to sit down as soon as we get somewhere, but we do tend to have tea and cake after we have a walk before coming home rather than having tea after we get home, which is what we used to do. This makes us feel very “English”.
