今日は、英国はバンクホリデーの祝日です。ふと思い立って、Fittleworth の「The Swan Inn」でランチをして来ました。ペットワースなどに行く途中見かけるので、長期間リノベーションをされていた時からオープンしたら行かないとね、と言っていて、しばらく前にサンデーランチに一度行きましたが、その後、普通の日にもといいつつ、延び延びになっていました、というのはメニューの品数が少なくてわたしが食べたいと思うものがない。変わるかなとたまにチェックしていたのですが、いつまで経っても似たようなメニュー。夫がずっと行きたいと言っていたので、今日行ってみることにしました。

It’s a Bank Holiday Monday today and we decided to go to The Swan Inn in Fittleworth for lunch just before lunch time as we were able to book a table at 1:00.  Whenever we go to Petworth or that direction we see this pub on our way.  It was closed for renovation/repair for a long time so we were saying we will try the place when it re-opens.  We did try it once a while ago but it was for Sunday Lunch and since then my husband has been wanting to go back for a normal dinner or lunch.  I was never keen because I find their menu too small and cannot find anything I feel like eating but he suggested it again today so I thought maybe I’ll find something on their specials.

 

 

 

 

スペシャルもあるし、ウェブサイトとはメニューが違うかもと期待していましたが、結局、やはりわたしが食べたいと思うものはなかったです。前菜はブラータチーズ、メロン、ハムをシェアー。ブラータは量がありましたが、生ハムは１枚をいくつかにちぎった量、もう少しのせてくれても良いのでは。

There were two or three specials but none appealed to me.  We shared Burrata, Melon & Ham for a starter.  There was enough Burrata but the amount of the ham seems very stingy, it was about one slice – if that – ripped into a few pieces.

 

 

で、わたしは「チーズバーガー」のチーズ抜き（笑）。「スナック」というカテゴリーにあったものでチップスもサラダもついてこないものだったので、サイドにステムブロッコリーをオーダーしました。まぁ、普通でしたが、中身が本当にバーガーと少し炒めた玉ねぎとほんのちょこっとのソースだけ。レタスとトマトくらいは欲しい。レタスやトマトが入っていると少し水気が追加されて、シャキッとするものがあると美味しく感じると思うのですが。

For my main I ended up ordering “Cheese Burger” but without cheese.  It was under the menu “snack” category and didn’t come with any side like chips or salad, so I ordered stem broccolis.  It was OK but boring because all it had was a patty, sauteed onion and a tiny bit of a sauce, no lettuce, no tomato, nothing.  Lettuce would add crunchy texture and tomato would add a bit of moisture, which helps I think.

 

 

 

夫は、フィッシュ＆チップス。お魚はほろほろ崩れてしまってとても食べにくそうで、イライラしながら食べているのがわかりました。チップスがたくさんあるのでそれも食べにくかったみたいです。

My husband had Fish & Chips.  The fish was very crumbly, and crumbled into tiny bits so he was getting very irritated to try and eat it, specially because there was very little room to manoeuvre with so many chips covering a large area of the plate.

 

デザートは、サマープディング。サマープディングというのはフルーツを少量のシロップで軽く煮て出たジュースを食パンに染み込ませたものと、その軽く煮たフルーツを合わせたもの。美味しかったです。

We shared Summer Pudding for the dessert.  This was very nice.

 

 

当分、行かないかな。

So, I cannot say we’ll be rushing back.
