昨日から来ている義弟夫婦とブランチに出かけました。夫とわたし二人だけだと日曜日は（夫は走りに出たりたまにスタバに行くこともありますが）出かけず1日家にいることがほとんどですが、お友達や家族が遊びに来ているとブランチに出ることが多いです。行き先は大抵デンプシーのP.S.Cafe。今はたくさんおしゃれなカフェがありますが、６年まえにシンガポールに来た当時はまだまだ少なくて、P.S.Cafeは貴重な存在で、お友達に連れて行っていただいて以来お気に入りのカフェです。
We went out for Brunch with my husband’s brother and his wife. My husband and I very seldom go out on Sundays (although my husband does usually run in the morning and sometimes goes to a Starbuck’s alone) but we tend to go out for a brunch when we have someone staying with us. Most of the time we go to P.S.Cafe in Dempsey, it’s been our favourite place to go for brunch since we came to live here 6 years ago.
日曜日のブランチは予約ができないのが難点で、行って並ぶしかありません。久しぶりに行ったら（多分１年くらいは行っていません）整理券を発券する機械が備えられていました。電話であと何組待つかアップデートされて自分の番が来ると電話をくれる、というシステム。少し便利になりました。
The only problem is that they don’t take any bookings for Sunday brunch so you have no choice but just go there and queue up. We hadn’t been there probably for longer than a year and found out they’d installed a ticketing machine for queueing – you get updated how many groups are waiting in front of you and get a phone call when it’s your turn. It made it a little more convenient.
わたしはここではほとんどクラブサンドをオーダーするのですが、今日はふと違うものにチャレンジ。パッタイサラダ。パッタイっていうくらいだから麺のサラダだと思ったら、混ぜても混ぜても生のもやしばかり。
I almost always order their Club Sandwich here, but I decided to be wild and try something else today! I ordered Pad Thai Salad. I expected it to be noodle salad from the name but I found tons and tons of raw Brussels sprouts, no noodles!!
と思ったら、最後の方に少しだけ細い米麺のようなものが出てきました（笑）。少なすぎてほとんど食感はわからず、結局もやしばかりな感じ。麺ともやしを半分ずつくらいにしてくれると美味しいと思うのですが、９０％もやしでした。でも、味はなかなか美味しかったです、ライムがたっぷりで甘酸っぱく少しだけピリ辛。そして、体に良さそうな食感（笑）。
Well, I did eventually find “some” noodles. They were very thin rice noodles (I think) – not really what you use for Pad Thai but that’s OK, but there were only so little, maybe about 10% of the total only. I really enjoyed the taste of it – it’s limy, sweet and sour and a little kick form chills – but I wish they used more noodles. Still, I enjoyed it enough and it tasted very “healthy”.

My husband and his brother had full breakfast with chorizo and sunny side up.
せっかく体に良さそうなランチを食べたのですが、そのあと甘いスティッキーデイツプディングを食べてしまいました。夫とシェアー。アイスクリームが美味しかったです。プディングの方はあまりスティッキーではなく、ちょっとドライ。まぁまぁ。
After the “healthy” main, I had this Sticky Dates Pudding – sharing with my husband. The ice cream was very good but the pudding itself wasn’t sticky and quite dry. Not the best Sticky Dates Pudding I’ve had.
このお店のお花はいつもフレッシュで豪華で見ごたえがあるのですが、今は旧正月の飾り（猫柳）でした。
Their flowers are always very impressive. However, they weren’t flowers today – branches of pussy willow and some plastic CNY decorations.
入ってすぐのところにジンがディスプレーされていましたが、お花の飾りがとても可愛くて素敵でした。バレンタインだからでしょうか？照明も効果的。多分白い菊の花の茎をピンクに色をつけたお水につけて花びらを染めたものだと思います。こういう人口の色をつけたお花は香港でも見かけましたし、シンガポールでもたくさん見ます。いかにも、という感じで好きになれないのですが、こういう使い方なら良いかもと思いました。
I really love this display. I guess it’s for the Valentine’s Day but they displayed gin bottles with some pink chrysanthemums. The petals were died with some ink (by putting them in water died with pink ink). I usually don’t like these artificially coloured flowers, they look cheap and bad taste to me, but for a display like this they are effective.
この写真ではあまり見栄えがしませんが、店内にも同じお花が飾られていて、可愛かったです。
The photo doesn’t show them very well but they also displayed the same flowers lined up above the service windows between the kitchen and the dining area and they looked very cute, too.
わたしたちが着いたのが１２時少し前だったので多分ピークの時間帯で３０分以上待ったと思いますが、順番が来てテーブルに着いた頃から少し空き始めていました。それでも満席に近い状態でしたのでサービスがとてもスローで、食事が終わってお勘定をしてもらうのにもとても時間がかかりました。急ぐ時には向きません。そして、人の声がとても響く気がします。話をするのに声を張り上げなくては話せません。
We arrived a little before 12.00 and I guess we waited around 30 minutes or a little longer. Just when we sat at the table we noticed it started to get less busy. Still, they were nearly full and the service was pretty slow. I think it wasn’t too long before we got the food but we waited for the bill for a while after asking for it. It’s always on a slow side so if you are in a hurry it’s probably not a good place to go to. Also I find it quite noisy and you need to shout to each other to talk.
あまりいろいろ食べたわけではないですし、以前オーダーしてあまり美味しくないと思ったものもありましたが全体的には美味しい方だと思いますし、雰囲気も良く、あまり他に見ないスタイルのお店なので個人的にお勧めのお店です。
I haven’t tried may things here and I have had one or two things I didn’t like but in general I think the food is quite good, waiters are friendly and the atmosphere is very nice. It’s a style that you don’t see anywhere else. It’s still one of my favourite places in Singapore.
ランチから戻って来て義弟夫婦がプールに下りた途端、雨が降り始めました（笑）。このところ、季節外れ（？）の雨が多いシンガポールです。暫くしたら止んだのでまた下りて行きましたが、また降り始めました。長くは続かなそうですけど。。。お天気が悪かったイギリスから来て常夏の気候を楽しみに来ていると思うので、あまり降らないと良いのですが。
After coming back from lunch, my husband’s brother and his wife went down to the pool – something they enjoy when they are here specially when they come from the cold and wet England. However, unfortunately, as soon as they went down, it started to rain! We’ve been having a lot of rain, which is unusual for this time of year. I hope it won’t rain too much while they are here – I don’t mind rain in general because it keeps it cooler but it is inconvenient when you want to go out.
