シチリア滞在最終日、この日は４時半ごろのフライトでロンドンに飛ぶ日。タオルミーナのホテルから空港までは１時間程度でしたが、レンタカーを返却しなくてはいけませんでしたので早めに１時に出ることに。

Our last day in Taormina and Sicily.  Our flight to London was around 4.30pm.  It’s only about an hour to the airport but we needed to return our rental car so we wanted to leave the hotel before 1.00pm.

午前中は、タオルミーナの一番の観光スポット、ギリシャ劇場に行きました。やはりこの日も坂道を登ってから階段でメインストリートまで歩いて降りました。この日は曇っていましたが、時々雲が晴れることも。

In the morning we visited Taormina’s major sight-seeing place, the Greek Theatre.  As always, we walked up the hill first then down the steps to the main street.  It started out with a very cloudy sky but then it cleared up.

ここが、ギリシャ劇場への入り口。　朝早めの時間でしたが、やはりそこそこ人がいました。それでも広いところなので、入ってしまえばきになるほどの人数ではありませんでした。

周りが山、目の前に海。気持ちの良い景色だったのでしばらく椅子（？）に座って休憩。こんなところでお芝居やコンサートを見るなんて、最高ですね。暑くなければ（笑）。使われるのは夕方からのようなので、海からの風もありますし、多分気持ち良いのだと思います。お友達から「ここから見る夕焼けは最高だから、是非夕方行ってね。」と言われていましたが６時にクローズするのです。お友達は、お芝居か何か見にいらしたのかもしれません。

Surrounded by mountains, and with sight of the sea, the view is fantastic.  We sat on the seats and admired the view for a while.  How wonderful it must be to see a play or a concert here with such a view!  As long as it’s not hot…  As they start events in the evening I assume it’s not hot.  My Italian friend told me we must come here at sunset – but it closes at 6.00pm!!  I guess she was here for an event.

 

 

名残惜しかったですが、ゆっくり景色を堪能してホテルに戻りました。

We wanted to keep staring at the view but we had to go back to the hotel and have a quick lunch before heading to Catania airport.

 

ランチは、ホテルのレストランで。メニューの品数がとても少ないので、面白いことに初日のランチとほぼ同じ。

We had a quick lunch at the hotel’s restaurant.  The menu for lunch time is very small so we ended up having almost the same things as on our first day there. 

前菜は、夫はわたしが初日に食べた生ハムとメロン。

For starter, my husband had melon & ham, which is what I had on our first day.

わたしはツナではありませんが、夫が初日に食べたサラダからツナを抜いたようなサラダ。

I had a salad, which was very similar to what my husband had on our first day except I didn’t have tuna.

パスタは、夫もわたしも初日と同じ。夫はペンネのピスタチオソース、わたしはスパゲティーのグァンチャ−レとチコリ（？）と赤ワインソースなのですが、見ての通り初日とは盛り付けが全然違います。そして、夫のパスタはどうだったか覚えていませんが、どう見ても初日のものよりこってりしていますよね。わたしのは異常に塩辛くて、さっぱりして美味しかった初日のものとはにても似つかないものでした。かなり残念。。。美味しかったから同じものをオーダーしたのに。。。違うシェフだったのでしょう。

Then we had pasta – exactly the same as what we ordered on our first day but they were very different.

My husband had penne with pistachio sauce.  You can see this one is a lot heavier than the one he had on our first day.  My pasta was also completely different – extremely salty!!  They are both presented sort of “poshed up”, which in my opinion is totally unnecessary.  In fact I prefer a rustic presentation in a casual restaurant.  Anyway, the taste is more important.  It must have been a different chef this day.

 

ということで、最期のランチはとても残念な出来でしたが、スタッフが親切でフレンドリーで景色も良くて、満足なホテルでした。

So, the last lunch was a sad one but other than that we were very happy with the hotel.  The view was wonderful, the staff was friendly and helpful.

カターニア空港のレンターカーの返却場所が少しわかりにくかったのですが、早めに出ていたので焦ることもなく無事に返却。レンタカー返却場所から空港まで歩いて６、７分ありました。屋根もない道だったので雨ではなかったので良かったですが、雨だったら困りますね。

The rental car return place in Catania airport was a little hard to find but we managed.  You have to walk 6-7 minutes from the rental car return place to the airport and there was no roof, so if it rains it would be quite hard to walk with luggage and an umbrella.  Luckily it wasn’t raining that day.

ということで、楽しかったシチリア旅行はこれで終わりです。この後ロンドンに４泊しましたので、もう少し旅行記が続きます。

So this is the end of our holiday in Sicily.  We stayed in London for 4 nights so I’ll write about London next.
