台北のホテルにチェックインしてまず向かったのが、鼎泰豊でした。たくさん支店がありますが、三越の中にある鼎泰豊に行きました。もしあまり待ち時間が長いようなら近くの小籠包が美味しいと評判のお店に行くつもりでいましたが、中途半端な時間で（３時半ごろだったでしょうか）待ち時間は２０分弱でしたのでぶらっとフロアーを回った頃に席が空きました。番号を取って待ちますが係りの方は日本語で番号を読み上げてくださいました。
After checking in to the Ambassador Hotel, we took a taxi to Din Tai Fung. We went to the one in Mitsukoshi so we could go to a different restaurant if the queue was too long because we heard that queues there can be very long. This time it was around 3.30pm so the queue wasn’t too bad and we just had to wait for 15-20 minutes. The lady in charge announced our number in Japanese, which was nice of her.
お友達に教えていただいて以来大好きで、シンガポールの鼎泰豊では必ずオーダーする野菜の前菜があるのですが、それかと思ってオーダーしたら全然違うもやしの前菜でした（涙）。普通の小籠包、妹と弟は蟹の小籠包（普通のの方が美味しいと言っていました）、スパイシーソースの麵（シンガポールのものの方がパンチがあって美味しい）、担々麺（これもシンガポールの方が美味しかったです、台北のは薄味で。。。作る人によって違うと思いますのでたまたまだったかもしれませんが）などオーダー。遅い時間でしたので、夜ご飯もありますしこのあとおやつも食べに行ったのでまだ食べたいというところで控えて終わりにしました。いくらだったか覚えていませんが、３人で３０００円程度と安かったと思います。
Whenever I go to Din Tai Fung in Singapore, I order this particular vegetable salad as a starter and I thought we ordered one of them here but it turned out to be something completely different – the middle row far left. It was just bean sprouts. We ordered their famous pork dumplings as well as dumplings with crab filling, noodles with spicy sauce and Dan Dan noodles. As we were having a dinner only a few hours later and we wanted to go and have some sweets before then we had to stop at just these. I don’t remember how much it was but I think it was something like Y3,000 for all, which is very inexpensive.
妹と弟の感想は、それほど特に美味しくもないね、という感想でした（笑）。そう、ごく普通ですよね〜。なぜこれほど有名になったのか。小籠包も他のお店で翌日食べましたが、そちらの方が美味しかったです。わたしの感想は、シンガポールの鼎泰豊の方が美味しいんじゃないかな。。。中華はやっぱり香港ね。。。でした。
My sister and my brother said “well, it’s not as delicious as I expected…”. I don’t really understand why this chain became so famous and popular, to be honest. It’s enjoyable enough but it’s not that special as you want to queue up for 3 hours (which apparently happens when it’s really busy). Personally, I like Din Tan Fung in Singapore better, specially the noodles because here they seemed to lack seasoning to me.
行く前から、小籠包は特別美味しいと思わないしネット情報でももっと美味しいお店がたくさんあるよ、と言ってはいたのですが、やはり台湾に行くとなると一度は行っておきたいお店のようでした。お安いですしそれなりに美味しいですが、一度行けば良いお店だと思います。特に台北なら他にいくらでも麺類や小籠包のもっと美味しいお店がありそうですしね。この日はあまり待たずに入れたのでよかったですが、時には数時間待ちと聞いています。そこまで待つ価値はないと思うのですが、やはり日本から行けば行っておきたいと思う気持ちもわかります。街中のローカル色の強いお店に比べれば小ぎれいですし入りやすいですし、それなりに美味しくお安いので、そういう点で人気があるのかもしれません。
I did tell my sister that I didn’t think Xiaolongbao here is that special and I found a lot of information that there are some other places where Xiaolongbao are much better but she wanted to try this place as it’s so famous. I understand that people want to try the place at least once, but I think once is probably enough as I believe there must be many places that would serve better dim sum and noodles than here.
Not that it’s bad. As I say, it’s enjoyable enough. It looks clean, they have a menu with pictures and numbers so it’s easy to order, tasty enough and not too expensive – so I guess it’s good for tourists.
