毎年メインの旅行が２週間から３週間（去年はスコットランドとイギリス、その前はシチリアとイギリス、その前はマラケシュとイギリス。。。この数年毎年イギリスが入っていますが、イギリスの夫の家族やわたしの親しいお友達がいることもありますが、たまたまフライトがロンドン経由だったので自然な成り行きでイギリスにも寄っています、今年は行き先がロンドン経由はないのでイギリスには行けません）、他にクリスマス休暇（会社がクローズになるので嫌でも有休消化させられます）とあと１週間か数日ビーチリゾートか日本で過ごす、というのが大体のパターンですが、今年は大きな旅行を２つする予定です。

Every year, we have a main holiday for 2 to 3 weeks (it was Scotland and England last year, Sicily and England the year before and Marakech and England the year before that, we’ve been having a few days at least in England but it’s because our flights were through London and also because we have families and friends there, this year our flights don’t go through London so we won’t be able to visit England).  Then we have a week or a few days in one or two place like in a beach resort and/or in Japan as well as a week at Christmas (my husband’s office closes so we have no choice but taking those days off).  However, we have 2 big holidays this year.

１つは、来月初めのインド旅行。以前も書きましたが周りのお友達がみなさん心配してくださっていますしいくつか心配な点はありますが、基本（わたしたちにしては）贅沢旅行なのでなんとかなるだろうと思っています。

One is to India.  I’ve written about this but all my Japanese friends are very worried about me going to India.  I do have a few worries but I think I’ll be OK as we are travelling with luxury.

もう１つは、１０月に行くケープタウン。今年は１０月にわたしが区切りのお誕生日を迎えるのと９月に結婚３０周年記念日を迎えるので、そのお祝い旅行です。夫の区切りのお誕生日は３年前で、マラケシュに行きました。何組かお友達がジョインしてくださってとても楽しかったのですが、今年のケープタウンは気軽に行ける距離ではないので、ジョインしていただけるお友達はなさそうなのが残念ですが、とても楽しみです。なんでケープタウン？と言われましたが、なぜでしょう？写真やYouTubeを見てわたしも夫も好きそうな場所のような気がしたからなのですが、多分山と海があること（サンフランシスコ、バンクーバー、香港、などなど、両方の景色が楽しめるところが好きです）、アフリカですが初心者向けと言うのでしょうか、ヨーロッパっぽい雰囲気で比較的安全なこと、食べ物が美味しそうなこと、アフリカの文化も垣間見れること、などいろいろな部分で惹かれた場所です。

Another one is a holiday in Cape Town in October.  I’ll have my big birthday in October and also we’ll have our 30th Wedding Anniversary in September this year, so the holiday is sort of for both.  My husband’s big birthday was 3 years ago and we had a holiday in Marrakesh.  It was wonderful that some of our friends joined us there, but Cape Town is too far from anywhere so it doesn’t look like any of my friends can, I’m sure we’ll still have a great time.  A friend of mine asked why Cape Town, I cannot explain why really but I just have a feeling that it’s our sort of a place.  It has both mountains and the sea (we love San Francisco, Vancouver, Hong Kong … ), it’s sort of Africa for a beginner, relatively safe, looks sort of European with beautiful scenery and the food seems very good, too.

インドは比較的急に行くことを決めたのですが、目的地の場所などを頭に入れて日程を組んでホテルを決めるまではたくさん検索して頭が痛くなりましたが、そこまで終わればあとは運転手さんが連れて行ってくれてガイドさんがつくという旅行なので、あまりすることもありません。レストランを決めるくらいです。

The trip to India was decided only recently and there was a lot to research to be able to understand the locations, logistics of the journey and decide which hotels to stay at, but once all that is done there isn’t much more to do as we’ll have a car with a driver and a guide in most places.  We need to decide the places to eat but that’s about it.

一方、ケープタウンは随分前から決めていてある程度下調べも終わっていたのですが、デポジットを取るところも多いのであまり早くからホテルなどお決めてしまうのもと一時中断し、途中インドの下調べに集中したのでまた一からな感じですが、先日フライトを予約してホテルもほぼ予約しました。フライトは出発したかった日が満席で前日出発になり、ホテルも取りたかったお部屋が満席になっていたところもありました。まだ１０ヶ月以上先なのに。レストランも何ヶ月も前に予約をしなくては取れないところもたくさんあって、そういうところは大体３ヶ月前くらいに予約を受け付け始めるので今はまだ予約が取れず、そうこうしているうちにん忘れてしまいそうです。

For Cape Town, I did a lot of research a long time ago as we’d decided on it more than a year ago but may hotels take deposits so I didn’t want to make reservations too early so I hadn’t looked at the information for months, then I had to concentrate on India.  By the time I started looking at the accommodations for Cape Town again I found some of the rooms I wanted to reserve were fully booked.  The flight out to Cape Town on the day we were planning to take was fully booked so we had to leave a day earlier.  There are still more than 10 months and many of my friends are always surprised how early I start planning but this is why.  Many restaurants need booking early but those that are hard to get a reservation at don’t accept bookings until 3 months before the date.  I’m worried I’ll forget to do that.
