今日は特に用はなかったので、お出かけは Marks & Spencers でサクッとランチをして今日の夕食のお買い物をしてきただけでした。

We didn’t have anything on today, all we did was to go to Marks & Spencers for a quick lunch and food shopping.

こちらに来て気候が全然違うこともありますし、Hello Fresh のデリバリーがあることもありますし、メニューをわたしが一人で決めるわけではないこともありますし、手に入りやすい食材が違うこともあったりで、食事のメニューが激変してずっと度々作っていたものが登場しなくなっています。特に、寒いのでサラダをあまり食べていないので、今日は敢えてチキンとマンゴーとアボカドのサラダにしました。シャンツァイとミントたっぷり、アーモンドスライスを乾煎りしたものもパラパラ散らしました。アボカドは、これまでイギリスで食べたアボカドの中では一番良かったかも。少しねっとり感もありましたし、味もそこそこありました。ダメだったのは、マンゴー。ゴリゴリしていました（涙）。でも、イギリスでマンゴーが普通のスーパーで買えるとは思っていなかったので、手に入っただけ良い方だと思います。酸味もありましたが、そこそこ甘さも感じられました。ただ、食感がゴリゴリ。

For various reasons like a different climate, using Hello Fresh deliveries, not choosing menu on my own and what is available is different here we have been cooking very different menus since we moved here, there are many dishes that we haven’t cooked often or at all, we hardly have salads these days but we miss it so we decided to make Chicken, Avocado, Mango salad today.  A lot of coriander and mint and some sliced and dry roasted almond slices on top.  The avocado we had today was probably the best we’ve had in England, it had a slight sticky texture and had some taste of what it should taste.  The disappointment was the mango – they were crunchy rather than soft and creamy like they should be.  Still, to be honest I wasn’t expecting to be able to get hold of mangoes easily so I’m happy that at least they are available.  They were a little sour but also a little sweet, it’s just the texture that was very wrong.

ところで、ずっと見つけられないのが、お酢の類。これは予想外の展開です。バルサミコ酢と赤ワインビネガーと白ワインビネガーはどこにもありますし（でも、１種類ずつです）、今日サイダービネガーも見つけました。でも、他のビネガーがどこにも見つかりません。ラズベリービネガーだとか、ハーブ入りのビネガーとか、ホワイトバルサミコ酢だとか。ごくごく普通と思っていたハインズの透明のビネガーも見つかりません（ため息）。どこに行けばあるのでしょう。なので、こちらに来てからサラダにはずっとレモン汁を使っています。今日のチキンとマンゴーとアボカドのサラダには、本当は少し甘めのフルーツの香りがするラズベリービネガーかマンゴービネガーを使いたいのですが、ないのですから仕方ありません、レモン汁と蜂蜜を使いました。

Incidentally, something we haven’t been able to find that we didn’t expect not to is vinegars.  You can get Balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar and white wine vinegar in most supermarkets (but only 1 of a kind rather than 5 different ones in other countries we’ve lived in) but no fruit vinegar like raspberry vinegar or herb vinegar or white balsamic vinegar, not even the basic Heinz distilled vinegar.  We tried many places but haven’t found any of them.  So so far we’ve been using lemon juice for salads.  We would have liked to use Raspberry vinegar or Mango vinegar or some sort of vinegar that has some sweetness for the chicken salad today, but we couldn’t find any so we just used lemon juice and honey instead.

久しぶりのチキンサラダ、美味しかったです！軽めの食事だったので、食後にチーズをデザート代わりに食べました。

Still we enjoyed the salad today.  It was quite light so we had cheese afterwards.

明日は、７年振りくらいの嵐がやってくるそうです。今日は嵐の前の静けさで、お天気もよく風もあまりなく、春の兆しが感じられるお天気でしたが、先ほどから少し風が出て来ているようです。危ないのでできるだけ外出は控えるようにとのことなので、お庭のテーブルや椅子は（大きなテーブル１つは重くて動かせないのでそのままですが）全部ガレージに入れました。香港で大きなテーブルが吹き飛んだ恐ろしい経験をしているので、念のため。

The weather forecast says we will have some strong storm (the strongest in 7 years) tomorrow.  It was actually quite nice weather, a little spring-like today, but I guess it was “the calm before the storm”.   They say we should stay home as it can be dangerous.  We moved all the garden chairs and a table (except the large table that is too heavy for us to move) into the garage so nothing will fly around. We have a very bad experience of a large heavy table flying from our balcony in Hong Kong in a typhoon, so we are being extra careful.

明日は、近くのレストランでお友達ご夫婦と久しぶりにお目にかかってサンデー・ランチの予定なのですが、どうしようか迷っています。とりあえず、どの程度の嵐なのか明日の様子を見て決めようかとは言っていますが、あまり酷いようなら車で出て何かが飛んで来ると危ないので中止になるかもしれません。

We have a table booked for lunch tomorrow for us and a couple of friends that we haven’t seen for over a month, but we don’t know if we should still go or not.  We’ll see how bad the storm is tomorrow and decide, but if it’s as bad as they are saying we may have to cancel it.
