今日のお天気はイギリスらしい、晴れたり、曇ったり、雨が降ったり。午前中はリノベーションに必要なバスタブだとかトイレだとかタイルだとかの配達があり、午後からはチチェスター にお買い物に出かけました。先日スノードロップを見に出かけたとき、夫のウォーキングブーツの底がわたしのものと同じようにパカっと取れまして（笑）。わたしのを見てチェックしなかったの？と聞いたら、していなかった模様。ということで、夫のウォーキングブーツを買いに。わたしも冬服を数枚調達しました。冬服はまだまだ揃っていなくて、ここは田舎なので数枚持っているスエットのようなものを繰り返し着ていてそれで平気なのですが、パリやウィーンではそうもいかず、かといって無理に買った服は結局その時だけ着て着なくなることが多いので、Marks & Spencers で安い黒やグレーのプレインなものを数枚。日本に行くときもそうでしたが流行からは程遠い生活を２０年も続けたので何を着れば良いのかわからず、それだけが憂鬱です。流行のものを身につけようということではなく、完全におかしな格好はしたくない、というレベル。
It was another day of very English weather today – it was sunny, then got cloudy, then rained, then cloudy, then rained…. In the morning there were some deliveries – bathtub, toilet, tiles – and in the afternoon we went to Chichester for shopping. When we went to see snowdrops the other day, my husband’s walking boots had the same thing happen to them as mine – the soles came off completely. I assumed he had checked his after what happened to mine but apparently not. So we went to buy his walking boots this time. I also bought a few items I can wear on the coming holiday. I haven’t had time to buy much warm clothes so I’ve been wearing the same few items like sweat shirts over and over and I feel OK about it here in the countryside, but I cannot wear them in Paris and Vienna! I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on them because things I buy in such a situation often aren’t really me and I don’t wear them after the holiday. So I just bought very inexpensive plain black and grey items in Marks & Spencers. I lived in Hong Kong and Singapore, where you don’t see much current fashion, for 20 years in total, I just have no clue about fashion any more. This is one problem I have when we go away to fashionable places like Tokyo, London or Paris. Not that I want to look fashionable but I don’t want to look completely off and stand out either.
今日の夕食は、Hello Fresh のSmoky Beef Meatballs (with Cajun Spiced Rice)（スモーキーなビーフのミートボール、ケイジャンスパイス入りライスと）。わたしたちはレシピよりもミートボールを小さく、半分くらいのサイズにしました。
Today’s dinner was Smoky beef Meatballs (with Cajun Spiced Rice). We made the meatballs half the size of the recipe.
ミートボールそのものは柔らかくて美味しかったのですが（パン粉入り、panko と書かれています、最近は日本のパン粉が人気）、ソースはわたしには酸味が強く、またご飯にも味がついているので全体に味が濃くなってあまり好みではなかったです。味そのものは嫌いな味付けではないのですが。。。ご飯にグリーンペッパーとケイジャンスパイスと塩胡椒を入れて炊くのですが、グリーンペッパーとケイジャンスパイスはソースに加えて白いご飯といただく方が良いように思います。ソースの量がご飯の量に対して多すぎたのかもしれません。また、ソースの最後に半分、盛り付けてから後の半分加えるとあるバーベキューソースを加えるのを忘れて、ほんの少しだけ上にかけて食べて見て、これは入れなくて良かったね、という味でした（笑）。更に酸味が加わるところでした。夫は結構美味しいと言っていました。
The meatballs themselves were tender and good (funny it has “panko”, which is Japanese bread crumb, somehow they’ve become so popular here), but the sauce was too acidic for me. The rice is also seasoned so together with the strongly flavoured sauce the whole thing was too much. I don’t mind the taste itself other than being too acidic. I think I would have preferred putting the green pepper and the spice in the sauce and have it with plain white rice. Probably the amount of the sauce was too much for the amount of the rice. We actually forgot to use the BBQ sauce, half of which is supposed to be added at the end to the sauce and the reminder over the top. We used just a little on top to see what sort of taste it is and we decided we liked better without because it made it even more acidic. This wasn’t my favourite I must say, but my husband said he quite liked it.
