今日は夫だけ、自宅に行ってインテリアデザイナーさんと会って、家のリノベーションの様子を見に行っています。わたしは埃を吸うと咳が出てしまうので、一人でコテージでお留守番。
My husband is in our house today to see our interior designer and look at the progress of the renovation. I didn’t go as I’m allergic to dust and I can cough for many days or weeks if I get exposed to too much – which is something I’d like to avoid, especially now with the current situation.
家のリノベーションは、(ガレージをクラフトルームにするのや夫のロフトやユーティリティーなどはまだですが)壁の色塗りの一部を除いて基本生活部分(キッチン、ダイニング、リビング、1階のお手洗い、2階の主寝室、主寝室のバスルーム)は今週中頃に完了して、今週末までに業者による掃除とカーペットのクリーニングを終えて、来週月曜日に戻る、という予定でした。
The renovation (not the garage conversation or my husband’s loft or utility) – kitchen, dining, living rooms, downstairs cloakroom, the master bedroom and en-suite bathroom – was supposed to finish early this week, cleaning will be done later in this week, including the professional cleaning of the carpets, and we were to move back on Monday.
壁の色塗り(埃だらけには中では出来ないので最後の作業)以外ほとんどの作業が予定通り進んでいてほぼ終わっているのですが、一番大規模なリノベーションだったバスルームだけが大幅に遅れています。バスルームの工事業者は2週間と言われていて、デザイナーさんからは3週間見てほしい、全体にはクリーニングも入れて４週間もらえれば必ず終わります、と言われていました。バスルームの作業が始まって来週月曜日で4週間になりますが、今日か明日になんとか終わりそう、という状態のようです。
Everything else (except painting, which cannot be done where dusty) has been finished or nearly finished as planned except the bathroom, which is the biggest work. The bathroom company told us it would take 2 weeks, our designer told us it’ll probably take 3 weeks so it would be better if we are away for 4 weeks so she can have the house properly cleaned and the carpets professionally cleaned, with a little wiggle room. It’ll be 4 weeks on Monday since the bathroom work started, but it looks like it’s almost finished or will be finished tomorrow.
以前から自分たちの家になったら、TOTO のウォシュレットを入れたいと思っていました。けれど、日本ではどの家庭にもありますが、日本以外では、まだまだ普及しておらず、高級品です。TOTOのウォシュレットの設置も考えましたが、費用が100万円くらいと高価過ぎて。最終的にバスルームの設置をして頂く会社が扱っておられるドイツ製の同じような機能(費用は3分の2くらい)のものを入れることにしました。バスルームの工事が大幅に遅れたのは、これが大きな原因だったそうです。まだ、滅多に設置する人がいないので、設置経験のある方がおらず、工事が複雑で、時間がかかってしまったようです。
We’ve always wanted to install TOTO’s Washlet (toilet) when we have our own house. I did a lot of research and TOTO is, I think, still the best but it costs 1 million yen (6 or 7000 pounds), so we decided to install a German maker one (2/3 of the cost) that had similar functions and the bathroom company we are using can handle. Apparently, this toilet is the major cause of the delay because these aren’t widely used and nobody has installed it before.
が、そのトイレ工事も終わって、今日中か明日中にはバスルームの工事も完了するらしく、なんとか予定通り月曜日に家に戻れそうです。
Still, this toilet has already been installed and the bathroom will be completed soon and we can go back home on Monday as planned!
数日前にデザイナーさんから、家に戻るのをもう数日遅らせることは可能かどうか打診がありました。今お友達からお借りしているコテージは月曜日に出なくてはいけないが、どうしてもということであればホテルに数日滞在することは可能だとお伝えしていました。また、主寝室が使えなくてもゲストルームが使えて、家が埃が舞う状態でなく綺麗な状態であれば、戻るつもりだともお伝えしていました。
A few days ago our designer asked if it was at all possible to delay our return and we replied that we have to leave this cottage on Monday latest but can stay in a hotel for a couple of days if necessary, we also told her we don’t mind the master bedroom not being ready, we can use the guest bedroom as long as the house is cleaned and not dusty.
それからみなさんが頑張ってくださったらしく、デザイナーさんご自身も昨日夜の9時までお掃除をしてくださり、デザイナーさんのご主人が工事で出たゴミを今日ゴミ捨て場に捨てに行ってくださったとか。お陰で何とか予定通り月曜日に家に戻れそうです。いざとなったら、家のすぐ近くにヒルトンがあるのでそこに泊まろうかと言ってはいましたが、コロナウィルスのことがあるのでホテル滞在も不安が大きく、避けることができそうでほっとしています。
I guess everyone worked even harder after that. I heard the designer herself was cleaning the house until 9.00 pm yesterday and her husband took construction rubbish to a dump today. Thankful to them we will be able to move back home on Monday. We would not mind staying at the hotel near our house for a couple of days if it weren’t this Coronavirus but we would feel safer if we didn’t have to do this under the current situation.
夫に「チューリップはどうなってる？」と聞くと写真を送ってくれました。ずっと雨が多いので(今朝も雨でした)、お水の心配はいりませんでした。元気に育っている様子で、嬉しいです。
I asked how the tulips are doing and he sent me this photo. As it has been raining a lot watering hasn’t been necessary but I’m happy to see them growing!
