Beef Stew & More Unboxing

日々過ごす部分（キッチン、ダイニング、リビング、ベッドルーム）がとりあえず片付いたのでほっとして、残りはまだ手付かずでした。ワードローブを作り付けしてもらってわたしのドレッシングルームにする予定のお部屋に、わたしの衣類、夫の衣類（今必要のないもの）、バッグ類や小物類など細々したもの、額に入った油絵や押絵、旅行から戻ってとりあえず入れていたスーツケース（必要なものは出しているのでほとんど空でしたが、少しだけ家では必要のないものが入ったまま）などを置いていましたが、何か必要なものがあるたび箱（プラスチックの保存箱）を開けて出したりしていたので、ごちゃごちゃと散らかったままでした。でも、ドアを閉めておけば見えないので忘れてしまったり、忘れたふりをしたり（笑）していましたが、そろそろ片付けなくてはと今日の午後片付けました。プラスチックの保存箱も隅っこに積んで、カゴの箱などに入っているものをその上に置いて、他のところに置けるものは置き、ルンバ君に掃除機をかけてもらい、すっきりしました。わたしの衣類やバッグは今は入れるところがないので、しばらくは今の状態です。

As the rooms that we spend our days in mostly (kitchen, dining, living & bedroom) are more or less in order, I hadn’t worked on the other rooms. The room that will be my dressing room, where a carpenter will install wardrobes, shelves etc, had been looking quite cluttered because we were keeping there our slate clothes, my bags, my bits and pieces, all the paintings and my oshie picture & suitcases and bags that we were using for our trips. We did take out most of the stuff that were in the suitcases and the bags but there were quite a few bits and pieces left in them, and the plastic storage boxes were here and there as we would open this box or that box to try and find what we need. With the room door closed I either forgot the state of it or pretended to forget – which is easily done – but it has been on my mind. So I spent a couple of hours today to tidy the room up. Now everything that can be unpacked has been unpacked and the plastic boxes of my clothes and bags are stuck in a corner of the room with some baskets of my other stuff on top. They cannot be moved until the work in the room starts, but at least the room is looking much more tidy now and I know where everything is. Then the Roomba cleaned where it can. I’m feeling much better.

ガレージの中には、旅行から戻って来て開けた箱（中にはパッキング材が一杯詰まった状態）がたくさん積み上げてあります。ロックダウンになって、そういうものを捨てられるところも今はクローズになっているので捨てるところがないので、オープンになるまではそのまま。クラフト関係のものがたくさんあるので、少しずつ箱から出せるものは出して、出せないものもパッキング材を出してしまってまとめようかと思っています。夫が２階の小さな部屋（リノベーションで物置にする予定のお部屋）にダイニングテーブルに使っていたテーブルをセットアップしてくれて、カードなど作れるようにしてくれたので、必要なものだけ探し出してそのお部屋に入れて、クラフトルームが出来るまでそこでカード作りをしようかと。リノベーションの第二弾はは当分始められそうにないですし、始まってからもしばらくかかりますし。

The only room I should work on is the garage now. There are a lot of boxes filled with just old packing materials, which my husband would have taken to the dump, but cannot do so because all the dumps are closed at the moment. We just have to wait until dumps open again. I think I will open the craft boxes, put all the packing materials together and the craft stuff in some boxes as well as taking some to the room my husband set up for my temporary craft room. If I find all the essential stuff I will be able to start making cards again. It doesn’t look like the 2nd phase of the house renovation can start anytime soon and it’ll take a while once it starts, so it’ll be good if I can start doing some craft soon.

さて、先日、Petworth のお肉屋さんに行ったときに２切れだけ残っていたスネ肉を買いました。冷蔵庫に入れて２日ほど忘れていたので慌てて赤ワインにつけておいて、昨日、ジェイミー・オリバーの「Jool’s Favourite Stew」にしました。玉ねぎ、パースニップ、人参、バターナッツスクウォッシュ、どれも家にあったので。お野菜は２段階に分けて半分ずつ入れて、最後に先に入れた方を潰しました。

When we went to the butcher’s in Petworth the other day, there were 2 small slices of shin of beef left and we bought them. We forgot about them for a couple of days, then I marinaded them in red wine and finally cooked it yesterday. We chose to cook Jamie Oliver’s “Jool’s Favourite Stew” as we had all the vegetables you need – onion, parsnip, carrot & butternut squash. We put half of the vegetables together with the beef and half later and mashed the ones we put in first when it was cooked.
