House Renovation – Craft Room & Study

多分、一般的に考えれば女性ならクロゼットのお部屋が一番楽しみなのではと思うのですが、わたしが一番長い時間を過ごすのがクラフトルーム兼スタディーなので、わたしにとってはこのお部屋のリノベーションの方が大切です。

I guess the dressing room would mean a lot to most girls/ladies, but the study & craft room means more to me because I spend a majority of my days in the study & craft room.

この家を見に来た時、場所的にはとても気に入りましたが、大量のお料理の本を置く場所がありませんし、クラフトルームに出来るスペースもないので却下するところでした。ガレージをスタディー兼クラフトルームにリノベーションすることを思いついてから候補に上がったのでした。

When we came to have a look at this house a year and a half ago, I liked the location and the surroundings very much. However, I didn’t think we could live in this house because there was nowhere we could put the large number of our cookery books. There wasn’t any large enough room for my craft room, either. It was only after we thought of renovating the garage into my study/craft room, when this house became a candidate for our future home.

２週間前まではダンボールに入ったままのクラフト関係のものやクリスマスの飾りなどで半分くらい塞がれていましたが、随分作業開始が遅れていましたが、いよいよ、明日からガレージをクラフトルームにするリノベーションが始まることになったので、トランクルームの業者に来ていただいて荷物は今はトランクルームに入っています。

Until very recently the garage was half full with boxes of my craft stuff, Christmas decorations etc, but we had them taken away and stored in a storage warehouse for the renovation. The work is finally starting tomorrow after a long delay.

寝室のバスルームが多分一番大掛かりなリノベーションだったと思いますが、このガレージのリノベーションは何もないところからなので結構大変。床暖房も入れますし、お庭側に窓も作ります。そして、バスルームのように大きな会社にお願いしたのではなく個人の大工さんにお願いしたので、時間もかかると思います。

The ensuite bathroom of the master bedroom was probably the most major renovation we had done to the house, but this is going to be quite a big job as well. Underfloor heating will be installed and a window will be made on the back garden side. We expect it to take quite a while also because we asked a carpenter rather than a company.

ここにはセントラルヒーティングなどのボイラーが置かれているので、これは動かせません。そして、キッチンの冷蔵庫が小さいので、ここにもう１つ大きな冷蔵庫を置く予定にしています。そして、キッチンの収納庫が小さいので度々使わない食品、よく使うものや日用品などの予備、お水やビールなどのストック、調理器具、大きくて棚に入らないお皿などを収納出来る収納棚も作るので、全部が本やクラフト関係のもののお部屋ではないのですが、車を２台入れて余裕がある大きさなので、なんとかうまく収まるのではないかと思っています。

In the garage, the central heating boiler is installed in a cupboard and that cannot be moved. We are also going to put a large fridge here as the one in the kitchen is too small. We are also going to make an area where we can store things like store cupboard stuff (there is very little one in the kitchen, which isn’t big enough), stock of household things like toilet rolls, cleaning related things, water, beer, some large cooking equipment, large dishes that we don’t have space for in the kitchen etc. So the total space cannot be used only for my craft stuff and books, but hopefully there will be enough space when its finished.

何しろ白紙からのスタートで、正直、どんなお部屋にしたいかはっきりしたイメージがないので、とても不安ですが、居心地の良いお部屋になりますようにとドキドキしています。

It is a blank canvas at the moment, I don’t have a clear image of the room I want, so I’m feeling quite anxious but I hope it’ll be a nice comfortable room.

ちなみに、ガレージは家の中を通らずに行き来できますし、移動式のトイレをお庭に設置して作業員の方たちは家の中には入って来ないようにするそうなので、コロナ対策も万全です。

Incidentally, the garage can be accessed without coming into the house and a movable toilet cubicle will be installed in the garden for the workers, so it is Covid safe.
