今日は、妹夫婦と一緒にランチに行きました。西宮に住んでいますが頼んでいた荷物もありましたし、わたしたちから渡したいものもあったので、車で借りているマンションまで来てもらって、一緒に近くのタイ料理屋さん「バーンタイマーケット」まで。芦屋と三宮にも姉妹店があって、どのお店だったのかは忘れてしまいましたが、ずいぶん昔お友達と行ったことがあり、美味しかったのを覚えています。

We went out for lunch with my sister and her husband today. They live inNishinomiya, but there were quite a lot of things I wanted to get from her (because I order things and have them sent to her) and we had lots to pass onto her, so they came by car and we went to a restaurant near our apartment. We all like Thai food so we went to “Baan Thai Market”, whichi is only 5 minutes from us. There are sister restaurants in Ashiya and Sannomiya, I cannot remember which one it was but I’d been to one of them many years ago with a couple of friends and it was good.

玄関から少し降りたところに、トゥクトゥクが置かれています。以前は、10分以内なら迎えに来てくれていたそうですが、今はされていないのかな。

Near the door, they have a Thai Tuktuk. I’ve read that they used to come and get you in this if you are within 10 minutes from the restaurant, I don’t know if they still do that.

ドアを開けた途端に例の店長さんが大きな声で、「はい！これは絶対予約入れてない！絶対予約入れてない！」と（笑）。夫の顔を見て予約に外国名がなかったからだと思いますが（妹が予約を入れてくれたので）、いきなり、びっくり。

As soon as we opened the door, the head of the restaurant, who is a charactor, said very loudly, “Right, there is no way you made a reservation! No way!” I guess he thought so when he saw my husband and he knew there was no non-Japanese name but it was a bit of a surprise!

夫は、タイのチャンビールを2本飲みました。他は全員、お水。

My husband had 2 bottles of Thai beer, Chang. All the others just had water.

生春巻き。中身は、春雨やもやしなどなど。皮がムチっとしていて美味しかったです。

Fresh spring rolls, the filling was vermicelli, bean sprouts and some other vegetabes, they were very tasty and the texture of the spring roll skin was lovely.

わたしたちが時々家でも作りますしお店でもオーダーする、ラーブムーという豚ミンチの辛いサラダがあるのですが、そこに春雨も入れたもの、多分タイにはない。辛さを聞かれて、マイルド、辛い、激辛とあります、と言われ、真ん中の辛いにしたら、わたしにとっては激辛でした、一口食べて、ヒェー！美味しいのですが、ご飯と一緒にちょびちょびとしかいただけませんでした。幸い妹夫婦は結構辛くても食べられるのでわたしたちより食べていたと思いますが、4人とも、鼻をかみかみ（笑）。次回は、マイルドにします。

There is a spicy mince pork salad called Laab Moo, which I sometimes cook at home and we also order often at any Thai restaurant but this one was a vermicelli and mince pork salad. I don’t think this exist in Thailand but we wanted to try it. We were asked how spicy we wanted it to be – mild, spicy or extremely spicy and we chose spicy. OMG, it was to be extremely spicy. It tasted good but we had to have it with a lot of rice. My sister and her husband can handle a little more spiciness so they had more than we did but we were all blowing our noses often. I will order Mild next time!

チキンサテー。チキンサテーはチキンの胸肉のところが多いのですが、これはもも肉でした。香ばしく美味しかったです。

Chicken Satay. They are usuall chicken breast but these were thigh and were very good.

カオソイという、カリカリの麺とモチっとした麺が両方入ったカレー。ギリギリのところまでカレーとモチっとした麺が入っているのでとても分けにくかったですが、美味しかったです。麺を食べた後少しカレーが残っていたので、ご飯といただきました。4人で分けても結構量がありました。

Kaosoi, which is curry served with 2 types of noodles, crispy ones and chewy ones. Under the crispy noodles, there is chewy noodles with curry sauce and there wasn’t a lot of space left for you to mix it together although you are supposed to eat it after mixing it up. I divided them into 4 smaller bowls with great difficulty! But it was very tasty and we all enjoyed it. There was a little curry sauce left after we finished the noodles, so we had it with rice.

デザートは、マンゴーとココナッツミルク入りの餅米。マンゴーは流石にタイほど美味しくないですが、イギリスのマンゴーよりはマシでした。1オーダーを4人で。

We then had Mango & Sticky Rice (wth coconut milk) – shared between 4 of us. Mango wasn’t as good as it could be, but better than those in England.

そして、もう1つ、妹がタイのティーを飲んでみたいというので、タイミルクティーをオーダーしました。タイティーといえば赤いイメージですが、赤いのは色粉でつけているので日本だと赤くはならないみたいで、そんなに甘くもなく、そしてなぜかタピオカも入っていて、う〜ん、これはタイティーじゃないような？？

Also we ordered Thai Milk Tea because my sister wanted to try, but as the usual red colour of Thai Tea is colouring so I guess it’s not used in Japan – and she said it wasn’t sweet either so it was normal milk tea but had black tapioca inside. As far as I know normal Thai Tea doens’t have tapioca…??

ランチセットもたくさん種類があって、ランチセットにするととてもお得なのですが、わたしたちはアラカルトでオーダーしたので、12000円、1人3000円、デザートもオーダーしてビールも2本いただいたので、悪くはないお値段かなと思います。ポンドにすると66ポンド、1組33ポンドはかなりお安く感じます。どれもとても美味しかったです、いる間にまた行くと思いますし、妹夫婦もまた来たいと言っていました。

They had a lot of lunch sets, which are great value, but we ordered a la carte and the total bill was 12,000 yen (£66) We did have a dessert and 2 bottles of beer, so 3,000 yen (£16.50) per person isn’t bad at all. It sounds so cheap in pounds! We enjoyed everything here so we’ll definately go back before we leave Japan and my sister and her husband said they’ll come back, too.
