昨日、今日はお天気予報の予報より暖かく、２５度くらいまで上がっていました。でも、もうすっかり早く暗くなるようになったのが寂しいです、今夜の８時１５分ですが、ずいぶん暗くなっています。

It was warmer yesterday and today than the temperature they said it would be on the weather forecast, it was about 25C both days.  I does get dark quite early now, though.  It’s 8:15pm now and it’s already pretty dark and I do feel a bit sad about that.

今日の夕食は夫が作ってくれた、ビーフ・ブルギニヨンでした、かなり久しぶりな気がします。ビーフの脛肉、パンチェッタ、マッシュルーム、エシャロット、赤ワインなどが入っています、丁度良い加減に煮込まれてとても美味しかったです。テンダーステム・ブロッコリーを添えてくれました。

Today’s dinner was Beef Bourguignon, which my husband cooked.  I have a feeling we hadn’t had it for quite a while.  It has shin of beef, pancetta, mushrooms, shallots, and red wine. The beef had just the right tenderness and it was very tasty.  He served it with tender stem broccoli.

明日の月曜日は、バンクホリデーと言ってこちらでは祝日になっています。週末もそうですが、よく、「楽しいバンクホリデーを！」とか「楽しい週末を！」と言い合うのですが、返事に困ります（まぁ、もちろん、「あなたもね！」と言いますが）。そして、「バンクホリデーはどうしてたの？」とか「週末はどうしてたの？」とか聞かれるのも返事に困ります。だって、退職してからは週末もバンクホリデーも特別な意味を持たないから。っていうか、特別な意味があるとしたら、うっかり忘れて外出しないように気を付けること。お子さん連れなどで混み合うところが多いので。それ以外は、普通の日、です。なので、毎回、「特に、何も」と言うしかなく、なんだかなぁ、です。

Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday Monday.  Like with weekends, people often say to us “Have a lovely Bank Holiday!”or “Have a lovely weekend!” and I don’t know what to say (though I would just say ‘you, too’.)  I also feel very awkward when people ask, “What did you do on the bank holiday?”  or “What did you do on the weekend?”  because bank holidays and weekends don’t mean anything to us retired people who don’t have children or grandchildren.  If there is anything, we try to remember not to go out because some places are busy with families.  Other than that, it’s just another day.  So, every time when I’m asked, I say “nothing really” feeling very inadequate and awkward.
