荷物をほどいて一休みしてから、タオルミーナの街まで降りてみました。ホテルからタオルミーナの中心地までは山道を階段で降りるか（５分ほど急な山道を登ってから階段を降ります）、ホテルのシャトルバスを使うか、タクシー。特に急がないし降りるならまぁ楽かな、と階段で降りることに。ホテルの人は１５分くらいとおっしゃっていましたが、とんでもない、３０分かかりました。山の中の階段を降りてから更に１０分ほど住宅街の中の細い階段の道を降りなくてはいけないのです。
After unpacking and having done some important things like setting up the wifi etc, we went down to the town of Taormina. To go down into Taormina we could take the hotel shuttle bus (they didn’t have the service very often so it wasn’t very convenient), take a taxi, or walk down. The hotel staff told us it was about 15 minutes to walk down so we decided to do so. We needed to first walk up a steep hill for 5 minutes or so, then take stairs all the way down to the main road. It took us about 30 minutes! I think it was about 15 minutes that you walk down the stairs in the mountain but then you need to walk down more narrow stairs between buildings down to the main road. You have beautiful view so walking down for 30 minutes wasn’t too bad.
３０分の道程も、こんな景色を見ながら降りるのでそれほど苦にはならなかったです。
そして、メインストリートに出てみると、すごい人ごみにびっくり！観光地化されているとは聞いていましたし日曜日なのである程度の混んでいるとは思いましたが、これほどとは。後でお友達に（この日は日曜日で）翌日が祭日だとお聞きして納得。
When we finally arrived in the main street, we were shocked to see it packed with people. I knew Taormina was very touristy and it was a Sunday but it was far beyond my expectation. Later I found out that the following Monday was a public holiday in Italy (which I did know when I was planning the trip but had forgotten). No wonder!
実際にはまだまだ明るかったと思うのですが、iPhoneの写真はどれも暗く写っていました。これでもかなり修正済み。

Streets and alleys were very nice, though.
手作りのグラニーたが美味しいと評判のお店に行ってみたのですが、予想どおり満席。外の席はもっと混んでいて長蛇の列だったのであきらめて。。。
There is a famous cafe where homemade granita is supposed to be delicious but as we thought all the tables (both inside and outside) were occupied, and there was a long queue, we gave up.
広場のカフェで、レモンのグラニータをいただきました。夫は、ビール。
We sat at a cafe at a piazza, I had lemon granita and my husband had beer.
しばらく、カフェに座ってピープルウォッチング。
We sat there watching people and soaking up the atmosphere.
シチリアのお菓子は数限りなくあるようです。
So many different kinds of sweets in Sicily!
ナッツ入りのメレンゲが美味しそう。果物の形のマジパンのようなものでできたものが有名らしいです。
The marzipan -like sweets in shapes of fruits are famous in Sicily but I’m not a big fan of them. The meringue with nuts look good!
ここにも古代のギリシャ劇場があるので見学するつもりでいたのですが、大勢の人たちで溢れかえっているところを見学するのも興ざめなので、別の日に行くことに。小さな街なので一番美味しいと言われているお菓子屋さんを覗いたり、おみやげ屋さんを覗いたり、一通り歩り歩きました、それなりに楽しかったです。
There is another ancient Greek Theatre here and we were planning to go in but there were so many people that we decided to go there on a different day when it should be more quiet. It’s a very small town so it doesn’t take long to see everything so we walked around, looked in shops and enjoyed it even though it was too busy.
帰りは、シャトルバスに乗って帰りました。バスに乗れば５分ほどでホテルに着きます。シャトルバスはあまり頻繁にはなかったので便利とは言えませんが（１日に６、７往復ぐらいだったと思います）、降りるときはバスで上ときはシャトルに合わせ、無理なときはタクシーに乗りました。ちなみにタクシーが結構高くて（こういうところですものね）５分ほどの距離で１５ユーロもするので、１日に何度か往復すると結構な金額になってしまいます。シャトルバスの時間もあまり便利な時間になかったような気がしますので、時間さえあればきれいな景色を見ながら降りて、上りだけバスかタクシーを利用するのが良いかと。。。
We took the shuttle bus of the hotel to get back. We never walked up the steps while we were there but I imagine it would take an hour for me to get all the way up there. In the shuttle bus it was about 5 minutes drive. The shuttle service wasn’t very frequent, there are about 6 per day both ways, I think. We took a taxi once or twice when we were there but it was quite expensive for the short distance – 15 Euro – so it’ll cost you quite a lot if you use taxi both ways 2 or 3 times a day. The shuttle service wasn’t at very convenient times either so what we did was to walk down to go out and took a shuttle or a taxi back. That’s what I recommend you to do. It’s actually quite enjoyable to walk down with the view.
