今日は、とっても久しぶりにお目にかかるお友達とランチをご一緒しました。前回お目にかかったのは１２月１日だったようで、約半年ぶり！（先日、LuKa のオープニングパーティーにいらしていたので、ご挨拶だけはしましたが。）

I had lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen for a long time.  It looks like the last time we got together was the 1st of December, so 6 months ago!

場所は、再び先日オープニングパーティーが行われたイタリアンの「Luka」。土曜日に夫と行ったばかりですが、こちらの方が先に決まっていました。

We went to “LuKa”.  I know I was there only on Saturday for dinner but this had been arranged before then.

今日は、ランチメニューから。ランチタイムは前菜はスープかサラダ、パスタが５、６種類、ピッツァが５、６種類、メインはステーキ、他にデザートもあったとは思いますが、そんな小さなメニューです。パスタ１品、ピッツァ１品をシェアーすることにしました。今日はカメラを忘れてしまったので、iPhoneで撮りましたが、昼間もやはり奥の方が陽が入らないのでわたしたちが座ったところは暗くて、ボケボケ写真です。

Their lunch menu is much smaller than the dinner menu.  You have a choice of a soup or a salad for a starter, then 5 or 6 choices of pasta, 5 or 6 choices of pizza, then the main was a steak.  I think there was at least one dessert but cannot remember.  I forgot to take my camera with me so I used iPhone to take photos.  Where we sat was very dark as there was no window for the sun to come in and the photos look quite out of focus – my apologies.

最初にパンが出て来ました。

First, we had complimentary bread.

パスタは、ボロネーゼにして見ました。ここがこうだからと説明は出来ないのですが、なぜか日本のミートソースのような懐かしい味がしました。

Then we chose 1 pasta and 1 pizza and shared. For pasta, we chose spaghetti Bolognese.   I cannot explain why but somehow I thought it tasted like Bolognese sauce in Japan.

ピッツァは、シェフマークがついていた生ハム、ブラタチーズ、トマト、ルッコラのピッツァにしました。先日の夜いただいたときより生地がカリッとしていて、香ばしくもっちりもしていてとても美味しかったです。トマトも甘くて美味しい。ボリュームたっぷりで、わたしは半分いただきましたがお友達は１切れお持ち帰り。

For pizza, we chose the one with Parma ham, burrata cheese, tomato, rocket leave and parmesan cheese.  The pizza base was delicious, better than the one we had on Saturday.  It was crispy outside, chewy (in a good way) inside.  Tomatoes were sweet, too.  It’s a generous size for one person; I finished my share but my friend took 1 slice home.

ご一緒したお友達は普段ほとんど炭水化物を召し上がらないのでピッツァやパスタ以外にもチョイスがあると嬉しいんだけど、とおっしゃっていましたが、ランチタイムはどうしてもチョイスが少なくなりますね。他はメインのステーキしかなかったですし。手間のかからないコールドカットなどでも良いので、もう少し前菜の種類があると嬉しいです、とフィードバック。個人的には、前菜１、２品とパスタかピッツァどちらか（とデザート？）を２人でシェアーするのがちょうど良い感じかもしれないと思いました。特にピッツァはボリュームがあるので（男性なら召し上がるでしょうが）１人１枚は食べられないかも。

This friend I had lunch with doesn’t eat much carbohydrate so she would have liked to have more choices other than pasta and pizza.  I understand that they need to limit the choices for lunch but I would also to have more choices for starters, even things like cold cuts would be good.  Today we wanted to try both pasta and pizza but personally I think I would like to have 1 or 2 starters then either pasta or pizza to share.  A whole pizza is probably too much for one – although of course some people would be happy with a whole one.

それにしても、驚くのがお値段。デザートも食後のお茶もいただかなかったというのもありますが、ガス入りのお水を１本いただいて合計４５ドル弱、１人２２ドルちょっとというお安さでした。先日の夜もお安かったですが、ランチは更にお安くてびっくりします。日本では2000円くらいでランチをいただけるところもたくさんありますが、シンガポールである程度以上のクオリティーで３０ドル以下のランチはほとんど聞きません。お値打ちですね。

I was surprised how inexpensive it was again.  We didn’t have any dessert or tea/coffee but we did order a bottle of sparkling water and the total bill was a little less than S$45, S$22.5 or so per person.  It’s not hard to find lunch that cost less than S$22 in Japan but here in Singapore I hardly hear of any lunch less than S$30 when the quality is higher than a certain level.  Such good value!

ご一緒したお友達は以前はお子さんが大きくなるまでシンガポールにいるとおっしゃっていたのですが、事情が変わり、もっと早く日本に帰られる可能性も出て来てわたしはがっかり。。。ですが、仕方ないですね。

This friend used to say she would be in Singapore until her daughter grows up, but things have changed and she may go back to Japan relatively soon.  This is how things go in Singapore (and probably in any expat community around the world).
