インドと言えば、タージマハールを思い浮かべる方も多いのではと思いますが、わたしもその1人。インドに行くなら、タージマハールはぜひ見たいと思っていました。タージマハールは朝日が昇る時間にオープンするそうで、是非その時間に行って見たいと思っていたのですが、朝早い時間は霧で何も見えないと言われ諦めて、８時頃出発しました。確かに朝起きて外をみると霧で真っ白でした。２月は霧が出ることはあまりないと聞いていましたが、結構寒かったので（１０度前後）朝早い時間にはやはり霧が出やすいようでした。

When people hear “India”, I imagine the majority will think of “The Taj Mahal” and I am one of them.  When I was planning the trip, I thought this can well be my first and last trip to India and I HAD TO see the Taj Mahal.  It opens at sunrise time, so we were planning to see it at that time, but we were told that we would likely not see anything because of the fog – and it was true.  So we left our hotel at 8.00am instead.  We had told earlier that we wouldn’t have any  fog in February (it was middle of Feb) by our agent but of course it varies year to year, it was quite cold in the mornings (around 10C) so I guess it tends to be foggy early in the day.

この旅行での一番の心残りは、タージマハールでじっくり写真を撮らなかったことでした。まとめのところにも書きましたが、ガイドさんが一緒でしたので旅行中全体的にじっくり写真を撮ることが出来なかったのですが、特にタージマハールは左右対称ですので時間をかけて撮らないとどちらかに偏ってしまっていたりで上手く撮れている写真がなくがっかり。夫が撮った写真も半分くらい入っています。ガイドさんがせかすわけではないのですが、どんどん歩いて行かれると焦ってしまい、ちゃちゃっと撮って次の場所、ということになってしまいます。時間的にもじっくり写真を撮っていてはなかなか先に進まないですし、ある程度仕方のないことですが、タージマハールだけはもっとゆっくり撮れば良かったと後悔しきり。

One thing I regret most about this trip is that I didn’t take more time to take photos of the Taj Mahal.  As I wrote in “Itinerary & Some Information Of Our India Trip” I wished we’d had more time to take photos without being rushed, but especially here at the Taj Mahal – not that the guide rushed us but as he was walking fast in front of us it was awkward to take time.  If we took too much time everything would take too long, so we couldn’t take lots of time for photos everywhere, but I really should have taken more time here.  It is one important monument I wanted to have some great photos of.  Since the building is completely symmetrical, you really need to take time to centre the building so it looks perfect.  None of my photos are satisfactory, only some are just OK.  I mixed in here the photos my husband took and that I took.

タージマハールには少し離れたところまでしか乗用車では入れず、そこからトゥクトゥクか専用のゴルフカートのような車に乗り換えました。ゴルフカートは、チケットに含まれているようでした。他の場所もそうですが、ここでも外国人価格が設定されていて、ローカルの方達に比べてずいぶん高いチケットになりますが、チケットにはビニールの靴カバーも含まれているので靴を脱がずに入れます。

You cannot get to the gate in your car, you have to change onto a tuktuk or a golf cart at a certain point (just a few minutes ride).  I think a ride on a golf cart was included in the ticket we foreigners have to buy.  Like most other places in India, foreigners have to pay a lot more than the locals, but there is some advantage in that.  We didn’t need to queue much and we were also given shoe covers, which means you don’t have to take your shoes off to go in.

インスタやフェイスブックにも書いたように、みなさん同様わたしも度々タージマハールの写真は目にしていますが、そして現地に行かれた方達みなさんが思うことのようですが、実物は想像しているより大きくて美しかったです。やはり感動しました。

As I wrote on my Instagram and facebook, like everyone else, I had seen hundreds of photos of the Taj Mahal, but it was bigger and more beautiful in real life that the photos can ever show you.  It really is a magnificent building.

タージマハールの見学の後は、まっすぐデリーのホテルに向かいました。アグラからデリーは高速道路（片道４車線くらいあったでしょうか、他のインドの「高速道路」はそうとは思えないような道路でしたが、ここは本当に高速道路でshちあ）で３時間ほどで、快適なドライブでした。

After seeing the Taj Mahal, we headed to Delhi .  In India, “highways” don’t seem to be really highways but from Agra to Delhi was a real highway.  Maybe about 4 lanes on each side?  It was fast and smooth.
