日本は大型台風で大変なことになっていますね。６０年ぶりの大きさとのこと。避難警告もたくさん出ていますし既に広範囲で停電しているそうなので、とても心配です。特に関東に影響が大きい様子、お友達もたくさんお住まいなので気にかかります。被害が少なく済むようにと祈っています。
A significant typhoon is hitting Japan, apparently the worst typhoon in 60 years. More than 7.3 million people have been placed under non-compulsory evacuation orders and a large area is hit by blackouts, it’s very worrying. I have a lot of friends in the area hit by it badly, I hope the damage will be limited.
また、外国の方も多くお住まいでしょうしワールドカップで海外から訪れている方達も多いと思うので、英語での情報発信もしっかりとしていただきたいです。
I imagine a lot of non-Japanese live in the area and a large number of people are visiting Japan for the Rugby World Cup from overseas, I hope the information is being sent out in English for them.
昨日は、デンプシーの「Don Quijote」というスペイン料理のお店に初トライしました。会社の集まりらしい大人数のグループ（テーブル３つに分かれてレストランの半分くらいを占めていました）がそれはそれは賑やかで。。。わたしたちがそのメンバーでもそうなると思うので仕方がないですね。お互いに声を張り上げないと聞こえなくて会話するのに疲れましたが、後半は少し静かになって話しも出来て良かったです。
We tried “Don Quijote”, a Spanish restaurant in Dempsey yesterday for dinner. There was a large group (there were 3 large clusters of tables) of a company dinner and the noise from them was incredible. I’m sure we would be the same if we were one of them so I don’t feel we can complain but it was a hard work for us to have any conversation because we could hardly hear each other. It did get a little less noisy later on, enough for us to be able to talk.
野菜のパエリアやパスタのパエリアなども気になったのですが、２人だと食べきれなさそう、ということでタパスだけオーダーしました。
I would have liked to try their vegetable paella or pasta dish but we decided to stick to the tapas because we felt we probably cannot have a large dish between just two of us.
パン・コン・トマテ。普通はパンにトマトをすりおろして水分を切ったものが乗って出てくるのですが、ここではトマトをフープロにかけたようなものをのせていただきました。このトマトが水分が多すぎて。。。夫は美味しいと言っていましたしパンがカリカリなのは良かったのですがオリーブオイルがたっぷりかかっていて、わたしにはオイリーでした。
Tomato bread. Usually you get slices of bread topped with grated tomato (drained) but here the grated tomato (not drained as it was very watery) in a small dish to top the bread with yourself. My husband loved it. I liked the fact that the bread was nice and crunchy but I found it too oily with lots of olive oil and the tomato too watery.
茄子のキャセロール。オーダーの時に「少し水分がありますが、良いですか？」と聞かれたのですが、これは「少し水分がある」なんてものではなく、スープの中に焼いた茄子が浮いているというちょっと不思議な食べ物でした。スープはミネステローネに似た感じ、たっぷりの玉ねぎとニンニクとニンジンやトマトが入っていたと思います。かなり甘い味付けでした。甘みが玉ねぎから出ているのかどうなのか。お砂糖が入っているのではないかと思いましたが。。。甘い味付けが好きな夫は美味しい美味しいと食べていましたし、わたしも美味しくいただきました。
Aubergine casserole. When we ordered it, the staff told us that “it has a little moisture”. A little moisture? It was soup! 2 pieces of aubergine were floating in a Minestrone-like soup. I think it had a lot of garlic, onion and some carrot and tomato. It was quite sweet and my husband loved it. I’m not sure where the sweetness came from, could have been from the onion but I have a feeling they add sugar. Maybe a little too sweet but I also enjoyed it.
りんごとミートボール。ミートボールはむっちりした硬いミートボールでした。
Apple and meatballs. Meatballs were very firm.
ポテトとチョリソと卵。思っていたのは目玉焼きだったのですが、スクランブルエッグでした。普通に美味しかったです。
Potato, chorizo & egg. We thought the eggs were going to be fried but they were scrambled. It was good.
スィートポテトのフライ。低い温度で揚げてあるのでしょう、油っこかったです。
Sweet potato chips. I think they fried them in low temperature oil – too oily.
最後にデザートに、ブレッド&バタープディング。オーダーしてから２０分ほど待って、また忘れられてるんじゃないかと思い聞いてみましたら、「忘れてなかったです、あと３０秒で出てきます」と戻ってこられたのですが、これはおそらくレンジでチンしている（冷たいところもあれば熱いところもあり、レンジ独特の火の通り方）ので、やっぱり忘れられていたのでは？
Then we had Bread‘n Butter pudding. After waiting for 20 minutes, we wondered if they’d forgotten and asked a staff. He came back and told us they hadn’t forgotten and it’ll come in 30 seconds. We thought they must’ve forgotten because it was obviously microwaved – some part was cold, some part was hot. My husband liked it and had most of it as I had only one little spoonful, it was too heavy for me, I didn’t like the texture.
これはヘビーであまり好きではない食感でしたが、夫は美味しいと食べていました。
店主さんなのか、偉い方らしき方（隣のテーブルのお客さんと座って長い間おしゃべりされていたので、多分店主さんなのではないかと思います）が「うるさいお詫びに」とデザートワインをサービスしてくださいました。とはいえ、お隣のテーブルにも出ていたので、お詫びなのか、いつもサービスさせるのかはわかりません。デザートワインも美味しかったです。ただ、サービスはかなりスローで、スタッフの数が少ないので目が届かず、デザートをオーダーしてもテーブルを片付けに来なかったり。外席もあり結構広いレストランにフロアーのスタッフは３、４人でしたので、スタッフ不足だと思います。食事はマァマァ美味しかったですし、お店の雰囲気も悪くなかったです。
I’m guessing that the staff who was in charge of our table was the owner because he sat at the table next to us and was chatting with the two guys dining there for a long long time. He told us he wanted to give us a glass of dessert wine as an apology for the noise and the wine was very nice, but I have to say their service was very slow and it was very hard to get a staff because there were only 3 or 4 of them and the restaurant was quite large including the outdoor seating. The food wasn’t bad and the atmosphere was quite good, too.
赤ワイン１本とガス入りのお水１本とで、１８０ドル（１４２００円）でした。
It was about S$180 including a bottle of red wine and a bottle of sparkling water.
