Creamy Harissa Sausage Pasta with Tomatoes, Olives and Walnuts


So, it’s the 1st of January, but I don’t feel it’s a special day so much.  It was similar in Hong Kong and Singapore, but unlike in Japan, Christmas trees and wreath are still up and all the decorations are for Christmas, no different from yesterday.  I like Christmas here but New Year doesn’t feel very special.  It’s a public holiday today but not from tomorrow.  In Japan most companies close at least until the 3rd, many for a few more days and you do experience a very different atmosphere.  It’s very different from any other places, somehow it feels very holy.   It’s been a long time since I experienced it, but I do miss New Years Days in Japan.

さて、そんな元旦の夕食は、先日も買いた Hello Fresh で配達された中から、「クリーミーなハリサとソーセージのパスタ、トマト、オリーブ、クルミ入り」。ソーセージはオーブンで焼いておき、同時に玉ねぎ、ニンニク、トマト、ハリサペースト、水、クレームフレッシュを入れたソースを作り、焼いたソーセージを切って加え、別に茹でたパスタと和えて残りのオリーブと青ネギを散らします。少しピリッとしていて、甘みもあって、とても美味しかったです。量が多くて(1人100グラムのパスタはあっさりしたパスタならいただけるかもしれませんが、乳製品入りのこってりしたパスタなのでわたしたちには多すぎました)、3分の1くらいは残っていると思います。冷たくても美味しいようなら、明日のランチかな。

Anyway, our dinner on the 1st day of this nw year was “Creamy Harissa Sausage Pasta with Tomatoes, Olives and Walnuts”, it was one of the meal kits we got from Hello Fresh.  You bake sausages in the oven and at the same time make a sauce with onion, garlic, tomato, harissa paste, water, and creme fresh, mix them together with pasta, sprinkle with green onion and it’s done.  It’s a little spicy but also sweet, we enjoyed it very much.  The portion is very large.  100g pasta per person, which is too much when the sauce is very heavy like this.  I guess we have about 1/3 left and if it’s still good tomorrow we’ll have it for lunch.






In the recipe you are supposed to cook pasta early, drain it and pour on some oil and leave it!  We didn’t do it that way – we just cooked it so it’ll be done when the sauce was done.



So, 2 out of the 3 in our first Hello Fresh set have been good so far.  We don’t know what was in Harissa paste so we won’t be able to recreate it without this kit but I suppose you can make something similar by just using some dried chillis soaked in water then mixing in some spices and making it into puree.
