数日前にクラフトルームの手前の本棚が取り付けられ、今日、読書コーナーのクッションが届きました！イギリスでは基本的にみんなそうなのだそうですが、ワークマンの方達、切りのよいところまで出来ると他のお家の作業に行ってしまって、次いつくるか結構直前にならないとわからず、その間が結構空くのです。なので、作業量の多いプロジェクトだと作業量の何倍もの時間がかかってしまいます。後は本棚の前にマグネットをつけられるパネルを入れる作業が残っていますが、いつくるのかはわかりません。数週間以内には来ると思いますが。
A couple of days ago, the bookcases in front of the bookshelves were installed and the matress and the cushions for the reading nook came today! Apparently, it’s the way how the workmen work in general in England, they come and do the work for a portion, then I guess they go somewhere else and don’t come back for a few weeks and we never know when that would be. As there was qutie a lot to do in this room, it has been taking probably 3 or 4 times longer than the actual work takes because of the gaps. The last job is to install a couple of large panels in front of the bookcases, which would work with magnets. We don’t know when that would be but hopefully in the next few weeks.
本棚は、このように壁に取り付けた本棚の前に左右に移動する本棚を取り付けていただきました。我が家は本の数が多いので全部普通に収納しようとすると壁全部が本棚になってしまうので、こうすることで１面だけに納めることができます。ネットで見てこうしていただくようにお願いしたのですが、作業してくださった方も初めての試みだそうで、苦労して考えて作ってくださいました。手前の本棚は棚の幅が広過ぎて無駄が出るので棚を狭くして２段増やしていただくのと、チラッと見えている奥のスカーティングボードが白だと目立つので他の部分と同じ暗いグレーに塗っていただきますが、それで本棚は完成です。
As you can see, 4 bookcases have been installed in front of the bookshelves on the wall; these slide left and right to be able to reach the bookshelves behind. I saw these sort of bookshelves online and asked the carpenter to make them but he had never done this before so he had to work hard to come up with the mechanism that works well and safely. At the moment, there aren’t enough shelves in the bookcaess and we would waste a lot of space so we asked them to add a couple of more shelves in each unit. Also the skirting board you can see between the bookcases is in white, which doesn’t look right, so we will ask them to paint it with the same dark grey paint as the rest. Then the bookshelves/cases will be completed.
クッションは少し前に出来上がっていましたが、クラフトルームの作業が残っていて埃だらけになるので待っていただいていました。
The matress and the cushions in the reading nook were done a little while ago but we asked our interior designer to wait until the dusty work is done before bringing them over.
シックな感じにまとめるか、思い切って派手にするか迷った結果、全体が白と暗いグレーで暗めですし、読書コーナーを目立たせるのも良いかなと思い、派手にすることに。オレンジは苦手な色なのですが、ショッキングピンクとの組み合わせだけは好き。たまたまインテリアデザイナーの方が以前使われた布が残っていたのを使ったのですが、これで全部使い切ったとのこと。なので、あと２つ、無地のピンクのクッションを追加しようかと思っています。わたしの背丈で座ってちょうど足を伸ばしておさまる長さなので、お昼寝は無理かも。丸まれば寝れるかな（笑）。
I was in two minds about the fabrics for the reading nook – to keep the colours in neutral so the whole room looks chic, or to use bright colours to make a feature and also to make the room look a little brighter – and decided on using bright colours. In general, I don’t like orange colour but I do love it paired with shocking pink. Our interior designer had these fabrics left over from some other project and they were all used up now, so I’m thinking of adding a couple of more cushions in plain shocking pink. The length of the nook is just right for me to sit and have my legs out but probably not large enough for me to have a nap – or maybe I can if I curl up!
ここに座るとお庭が結構遠くまで見えるので、今はチューリップが見えます。お洗濯物を干すポールは以前お住いだった方達が置いて行かれたのですが、もうすぐ撤去する予定。手前にたくさんある竹も９月に取り除いてしまって木とお花を植える予定なので、来年の春にはそこそこお花が見られるかな。
This is the view I get from the reading nook. The washing pole is there because the previous owner of the house left it but we will be removing it and planting flowers and shrubs. All the bamboos you can see this side of the pond will be removed and replaced with some trees and flowers in September, so hopefully I’ll see some lovely flowers next spring through the window.
