The Sussex Ox のランチのあと、途中で Lewes という街に寄って街中をぶらぶらしてきました。以前、この街を通った時素敵な街だったので、今度ゆっくり寄ろうねと言っていたのでした。うちからは車で４０分くらいのところにあります。アンティークのお店がたくさんあることで知られているようですが、古い建物がたくさん残っていて素敵でした。

After the lunch at The Sussex Ox, we stopped at Lewes.  When we drove through this town once before we said we should go back there to mooch around one day but we hadn’t been able to do so until today.  It’s about a 40 minute drive from us, so easy  to get to.  It seems to be mainly known for having a lot of antique shops but it was a very charming town with lots of old buildings.

ここが駐車場。昔工場だった建物にカフェや小さなお店が入っていました。今日はランチのあとでお腹一杯だったので寄れませんでしたが、素敵そうなカフェもいくつか見かけました。

This is the car park we parked our car, which was at the back of an old factory building.  It looked like there are some little shops and a cafe inside.  We saw some other nice looking cafes in this town but didn’t go in any as we were very full after the lunch.

 

 

 

 

気になるお店もいくつかありましたが、今日は１軒だけはいりました。レトロな雰囲気にまとめられていて、素敵でした。

There were a few shops that looked interesting but we went in only one shop.  Everything looked very retro and sweet.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

一番欲しくなったのは、お支払いするところに置かれていたこの棚。中身ごと欲しい（笑）。この棚自体は売り物ではないと思いますが（笑）。

This shelf unit is what I wanted the most!  It was behind the cashier so I don’t think it was for sale but I would love to have this with all the contents!

 

 

 

 

ブルワリーもあります。

There is a brewery, too (which brews my husband’s favourite bitter).

 

 

 

 

 

 

こういう古〜い建物、趣があって大好きです！古いお家に住みたかったな〜。でも、古いお家は天井も低いですし、床も歪んでいて何かと不便ですし修理にもお金がかかりますし、１つ１つのお部屋が狭くて使いにくい。そしてイギリスでは古いお家は人気なので新しいものと比べて安いわけではないので、諦めました。

I LOVE these old buildings, they are so full of character.  I wish we were able to buy an old house.  They look lovely from outside but I know they aren’t necessarily great inside, they have low ceilings, the floors aren’t straight and there are a lot of problems, it can be very costly.  Each room is small, so not easy to live in.  Also in England, unlike in Japan, older houses aren’t cheaper than newer houses.  When we considered the money you need to spend doing up the inside, we had to give up the idea.

 

 

ブラブラ、１時間ちょっと歩きました。今回はアンティーク屋さんには入らなかったので、近いうちにアンティーク屋さん巡りもしてみたいです。

We slowly walked around for about an hour or so but did ‘t go in any of the antique shops.  I’d love to go back and visit the antique shops some time soon.
