今日は、夫の大学時代からのお友達ご夫婦と「Sussex Ox」というパブでランチをご一緒しました。前回は４月後半にランチとチューリップフェスティバルにご一緒しましたが、その他は毎回この同じパブでお目にかかっています。お友達ご夫婦のお家と我が家との丁度間くらいにあるので、都合が良いのです。

We met our friends couple (friends from my husband’s university) at the “Sussex Ox” for lunch today.  We met at a different pub and went to a tulip festival at Pashley Manor last time in late April, but other than that we met them at this pub every time when we went out for lunch, I think.  It’s sort of halfway between our place and their place, so works well.

パブのお庭にはたくさんのお花が咲いていて、とってもきれいでした。

The garden of the pub was very beautiful, full of lovely flowers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

わたしたちは室内のテーブルに座りましたが、室内にはもう１組４人の方がおられただけでした。

We sat at a table inside but other than us there was only 1 group of 4 having lunch inside.

テラスからはとても良い景色が見られます。テラスの下にあるお庭でお食事をされている方たちが多かったように思います。

The view from the terrace is beautiful.  I think there were more people sitting in the garden below the terrace.

 

 

写真を撮り忘れたのですが、前菜に「オリエンタル・クロケット」を夫とシェアーしました。中にたっぷりシュレッドしたビーフの煮込んだものが入っていて、衣はカリカリで、添えてあったビーツのサラダがさっぱりしていて美味しかったです。

I forgot to take a photo but we shared an “Oriental Croquette” as a starter.  The filling was shredded stewed beef and the outside was nice and crunchy, the beet salad was refreshing and it was very nice.

わたしは、ビーフバーガーにしてみました。お肉は結構硬くてむぎゅっとした食感でジューシーで柔らかいタイプではなかったですが、お肉の臭みは全くなく、とても美味しかったです。

For my main dish I had a Beef Burger.  The burger wasn’t tender and juicy like it would be in Japan, it was very firm, but there was no gamyness and tasted very good.

 

 

夫は、フィッシュ&チップス。フィッシュが大き過ぎ！（笑）。ここのチップスは、わたしたちには揚げたらず。次回は良く揚げて欲しいとお願いしてみよう。

My husband had Fish & Chips.  Fish was huge!  We didn’t think their chips were very nice, we like them more cooked so they are crispy rather than soft.  Perhaps we should ask them to cook extra few minutes next time.

 

 

久しぶりにお目にかかってあれこれおしゃべりして、笑って、楽しいひと時でした。

We enjoyed chatting, laughing and catching up with our friends.

パブに行く途中で、たくさんの方たちがハングライディングをされているのを見かけました。それにしても、この青い空！とっても良いお天気です。

We saw many hangliders on our way to the pub.  Look at the colour of the sky!  It’s been a beautiful day today.

道路沿いにも道沿いにもたくさんのお花が咲いていました。６月のイギリスはとても綺麗です。

Wild flowers were everywhere.  England is beautiful in June.

 

 

 

イギリスの田舎道。こんなふうに植物がたくさん茂ったヘッジの間の、車がやっと１台走れる道を走ります。皆さん、結構飛ばしていて怖い。このヘッジのお陰で小鳥や小動物がたくさん存在しています。

Many roads deep in the country in England are like this, just enough width for a car to go through with high hedges on both sides and everyone drives quite fast, it’s a bit scary.  Thanks to these hedges, there are many little birds and little animals around.

 

 

せっかくお天気も良いので、ランチの後、以前から行ってみたいと思っていた Lewes という街に行ってみました。こちらは、また、後ほど。

As the weather was lovely we went to Lewes after lunch as we’ve been wanting to go there for a long time.  I’ll blog it later in another post.
