今日は、ここから車で３０分くらいのところの Woolbeding というところにある Terwick Church のコートヤードを抜けたところにあるルーピンがたくさん咲いている野原に行って来たのですが、結論から書くと残念なことにほとんど咲いていませんでした（涙）。２週間ちょっと前、ロンドンに行く前に行ったときはまだ早いのかな、という状態で、今日はちょっと遅いかもねと言いながら行ったのですが、種がなったルーピンも見かけたので遅かったのは遅かったのだと思うのですが、たくさん咲いて枯れて行っているというのではなく２週間前に行ったときと同じくらいしか見かけませんでした。
We went to the lupin field, where you see a large field of lupins, behind the Terwick Church in Woolbeding, which is about 30 minutes from us. However, sadly, we didn’t see many. A couple of weeks or so ago before we went to London, we went there thinking it would probably too early and it did look too early, we saw some buds with short stems here and there. Today we saw some still flowering but fading and some with seeds so I suppose we were a bit too late, but we didn’t see many faded or seeded ones, they didn’t look so different from when we were there a couple of weeks ago in terms of the numbers of lupins.
２０２０年の５月末に行った時はとってもたくさん咲いていて綺麗でしたし、２０２１年の６月中旬に行った時も結構咲いていましたが、去年行ったときは「遅過ぎたね〜。」という状態でした。今年は綺麗なところを見たいと思って楽しみにしていたのに、とても残念。調べてみたところ、以前はナショナルトラストのウェブサイトにあったこの野原についてのページがなくなっているので、もう、種まきをしていないのでしょうか。いくら調べても、新しい情報は見つかりませんでした。他にあんなにルーピンを見られるところを知らないので、本当に残念で悲しいです。
When we were there at the end of May in 2020 the field was really full of colourful lupins, it looked beautiful. When we were there in the middle of June in 2021, again, it looked pretty impressive. Last year, we thought we were too late as we saw some faded ones, but now we aren’t sure if that was the case or not. We didn’t think there were many out this year. I searched on the National Trust website but I couldn’t find the page about this field that I used to see and spent some time trying to find the latest information but didn’t find any. I wonder if they aren’t spreading seeds there any longer. I don’t know anywhere else, where you see so many colourful lupins around here, so we are very sad.
さて、今日の夕食はチチェスターの「Purchases」に行きました。今日も暑くて、夕方には少し涼しくなりましたが室内にはクーラーが入っていなくて少しむっとしていていたので、ここでは初めて外席に座りました。
We went to “Purchases” in Chichester for dinner today. It was very hot today again and inside the restaurant it felt a little stuffy, even though it had cooled down in the evening, because there was no air-conditioning, so we sat in the patio area at the rear for the first time at this restaurant.
夫の前菜は、ポークの三枚肉のカリカリコロッケ。美味しかったそうです。
My husband had Crispy Pork Belly Croquette for a starter, he said it was very good.
わたしは無難な、アスパラガスとポーチドエッグ。ポーチドエッグはちょっと火が入り過ぎていましたし、全体に薄味でもう少し何か、と思いましたが、まぁ、普通にいただけました。
I chose a safe one, asparagus with poached egg. The egg was a little too hard (the yolk was almost cooked all the way) and it needed extra seasoning, but it was OK.
夫のメイン、チキンに野菜のムースを詰めたもの。美味しかったらしいのですが、やっぱりステーキの方が好きだなと言っていました。
My husband chose Chicken Breast stuffed with vegetable mousse for his main. Although he said it was good he also said he preferred steak.
わたしは、リブアイステーキ。リブアイはすごく大きな場合が多いのですが、これはちょうど良いサイズ。とは言え、夫に４分の１くらい助けてもらいました。これが、とても柔らかくて臭みもなくて美味しく、イギリスで食べたステーキの中で一番美味しかったです。フライドポテトもカリカリでちゃんとポテトから作ったフライドポテトでとても美味しかったです。添えてあるロケットのドレッシングはわたしには甘過ぎました、多分ホワイトバルサミコ酢かなと思います、少し酸味が欲しいと思いました。
I had Ribeye steak. Usually ribeye steaks are very large but this one wasn’t too big. I still needed my husband’s help and he had about 1/4 of it. It was surprisingly good, no gamieness, very tender and really enjoyable, the best steak I’ve had in England. Fried potatoes were very good, too, not from frozen, very crispy and tasty. The dressing for the rocket salad on the side was too sweet for me, I guess they used just white balsamic vinegar, there was no acidity and I felt a little acidity would have been nice.
デザートは、バターミルクのパンナコッタ、アプリコットのシャーベット、アプリコットジャムなどが添えてありました。パンナコッタにはバニラなど他の香り漬けがなかったので、わたしにはミルク臭さ過ぎましたが、夫が美味しくいただきました。
We shared Buttermilk Pannacotta with apricot sorbet and poached apricot etc. There was no extra flavour like vanla in the pannacotta, so it was too milky for me – so more for my husband and he was happy;.
