今日は、２泊してくださったお友達ご夫婦と一緒に、オーストラリアから旅行でイギリスにいらしている共通のお友達ご夫婦と６人でランチをご一緒しました。全員、香港で会ったお友達なので、知り合って１６、７年になると思います。オーストラリアからのご夫婦ともシンガポールで何度かお目にかかっているので、わたしたちはどちらのご夫婦とも何年前にお目にかかっていますが、オーストラリアのご夫婦とニュージーランドのご夫婦は最後に会ってからもう１０年以上になるそうです。オーストラリアからのご夫婦は良く長期旅行をされていて、今回はスコットランドからロンドンを経由してサウスハンプトンにいらして、サウスハンプトンからアイスランドなどに行くクルーズに乗られろそうです。サウスハンプトンは我が家から１時間程度のところなので、ニュージーランドからのご夫婦が泊まりに来てくださるタイミングを合わせて６人で集まることが出来ました。
We had lunch with the friends who have been staying with us, together with another couple of friends from Australia, who are here on holiday. We all met originally in Hong Kong when we were living there, so we’ve known each others for 16 or 17 years, I guess. We did see the friends from Australia in Singapore a few times when we were living there but apparently the friends from Australia and the friends from New Zealand hadn’t seen each other for longer than 10 years. The friends from Australia are often on a long trip, they arrived in Scotland a week or so ago and came to Southampton through London and are taking a cruise to Iceland from Southampton tomorrow. Southampton is only about an hour from us, so the friends from New Zealand timed it so they would stay with us the last couple of days so that we can all get together today.
サウスハンプトンのレストランのことは何もわからないのでググっていろいろ調べてみたのですが、結局、イギリスらしいパブにしました。Duke of Wellington という古い建物のパブに行きました。何度もダメージがあり修復されているそうですが、１２世紀からの建物だそうです。
I don’t know anything about restaurants in or near Southampton so I did spend a lot of time online trying to find a nice casual restaurant, but didn’t see anything that looked specially good and in the end chose a pub as it’s very English and should have something for everyone. I booked a table at “The Duke of Wellington“, which is a very old building. Apparently the building has a history since the 12th century although it was damaged a few times and restored each time.
わたしはハムとマスタードのサンドイッチ、もうお１人はキッシュにされましたが、他は全員がビーフとビールのパイでした。パイはすごいボリュームでした。割と美味しかったそうです。
I had a sandwich (mustard & ham) and one person had a quiche but all the others had the Beef & Ale Pie, which looked huge. My husband said it was quite good.
デザートは全員、スティッキー・トフィー・プディング。わたしには甘過ぎて半分くらいでギブアップ、あとは夫が食べました（笑）。
Then everyone had Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. It was too sweet for me, so I had about a half and gave up and my husband finished it off!

おまけ。パブは駐車場から歩いて数分でしたが、この建物が見えた時に夫が「（わたしたちが行くパブは）あの建物！」と言うので、つかつかと入って行って「すみません、予約をいれているのですが。」と言うのと同時に夫が後ろから「あ、違った！」と）笑）。この建物はツーリストインフォメーションのようでした。
The pub was just a few minutes’ walk from the car park we parked our cars in, but when we saw this building after we walked for a few minutes, my husband said “That’s it!”. So I went in and said, “We have a reservation…” and I was going to tell them my name but at the same time my husband shouted from the back saying, “Not this one!” It was Tourist Information Centre, I think. Nice building.
楽しくキャッチアップしていたら、４時になっていました。１時からだったので３時間。あっと言う間でした。
We chatted for a long time catching up with each other and when I looked at the time it was 4:00pm – we’d been chatting for 3 hours!
ぶらぶらとわたしたちが車を止めていた駐車場まで歩いて（オーストラリアからのご夫婦はその先のホテルだったので）、お別れしました。とても楽しい時間でした。ニュージーランドからのご夫婦とも駐車場でお別れ。お２人共話題が豊富で話題に事欠かず、たくさんお話も出来てとても楽しい２日間でした。今日は雨模様でしたが、お２人が止まられていた２日間は比較的お天気が良くて良かったです。
We walked back to the car park together (the hotel the Australian couple were staying at was a little further), and said good-bye there. It was great to see them after many years. We also said good-bye to the friends from New Zealand in the car park. We enjoyed spending the last couple of days with them, we chatted a lot because they are so easy to talk to. It rained just a little today but I’m glad the weather was relatively good while they were with us.
でも、結構寒くて、外は軽いコートが必要なお天気で、わたしはバーバーという防水加工がされた結構しっかりしたコートを着ていました。
However it feels chilly and we needed a coat to walk outside, I wore my Barbour.
わたしのクラフトルームは１８度。わたしは今、冬用のもこもこのカーディガンを着ていますし（その下は夏服ですが）、結構手が冷たくなるくらいです。
The temperature of my craft room is often 18C now so I’m wearing quite a warm thick cardigan (though I’m wearing summer clothes underneath) and even my hands sometimes get cold.
