今日は、ガーデンセンターで催されたクリスマスリース作りに参加しました。去年も同じガーデンセンターのクリスマス作りにお友達（去年はお１人）と参加し、今年はお隣のお友達もご興味があるようだったのでお誘いし、お友達お２人と参加。リースの土台や苔やもみの木の枝だけでも結構なお値段になるので、スコーンとお茶かコーヒーがついて40ポンド（7434円）なのでお得だと思います。毎回人気のようで、５日間毎日午前と午後に催されますが、定員１０名満席でした。

I joined a wreath making class at a garden centre today.  Last year a friend asked me if I wanted to join her and I did, and this year I asked if our next door neighbour would like to also join us and she did, so 3 of us did it.  It’s £40 each including a scone and tea or coffee, which I think is great value as just the materials would cost quite a lot.  These classes are very popular and get fully booked quickly even though they run it one in the morning, and one in the afternoon for 5 days.  The one we joined was also fully booked and there were 10 of us altogether.

去年は白っぽいぷっくりした葉っぱのもみの木でしたが、今年は濃いグリーンの平たいタイプのもみの木だったので、結構雰囲気が変わりました。個人的には白っぽい葉っぱの方が好みですが。去年はガレージ側のドアにつけましたが、今年はテーブルに置いておこうかと思います。デコレーションの種類も今年は少なめでしたのであまりチョイスがなかったですが、控えめにつけました。

Last year we used silverish plump branches but this year they were a very green and flat type.  I personally prefer last year’s branches.  Last year we put it on our side door near the garage but I think we’ll keep it on the table as a centrepiece this year.  There weren’t as many kinds of decorations available as last year, so I just picked 2 kinds and sparsely decorated it.

個人的にはもっといろいろな枝物を使ったリースが好みですが、シンプルでもあるとテーブルがぐんとクリスマスっぽくなるので楽しいです。リースを作っている時のもみの木の香りがするのも良いものですし、お友達とこういうイベントに参加出来るのはとても楽しくクリスマス気分も盛り上がるので良いものでした。

Personally, I prefer making wreaths with a few different kinds of branches.  However, no matter how simple it is, it’s lovely to have a wreath as the table suddenly looks Christmassy.  I also enjoy the smell you get when you make a wreath and joining an event like this with my friends is a lot of fun.
